Overview

Are you interested in Zen Buddhism? Kamakura is the best place to go. There are many Zen Buddhist temples and you can enjoy maccha green tea in the temple's site or Zen vegetarian meal in a specified restaurant. The big Buddha is waiting for you sitting cross legged and putting both feet on his thighs. In the Komachi Dori shopping street, there are a lot of small shops full of attractive goods.

What to Expect

Kamakura is a site of the first military government and attracts you through its simple but serene Zen Buddhist atmosphere and samurai culture. You can enjoy a mixture of old Zen temples and modern, charming boutiques on the Komachi Dori shopping street as well as beautiful ocean view. You can choose other temples such as Hokokuji temple which is famous for its beautiful bamboo garden, Jomyoji temple where you can enjoy traditional Japanese powdered tea, Kenchoji temple, or the biggest Zen temple in Kamakura. You can even enjoy Zen vegetarian food for lunch.

“ Spending a wonderful first day in Japan with Rieko ”

My husband and I had a couple of days in Japan before getting on a cruise ship..we decided to stay in Yokohama rather than Tokyo and looked for a guide who was willing to show us some of the local customs and some of the food culture that we were interested in getting to know. We chose Rieko as she seemed to have some of the same interests. We chose to spend the day using local transportation such as trains and buses as well as learning how to eat Japanese style..we went to Kamakura. Could not have chosen a better tour for us. Rieko picked us up on time...she answered all of our questions prior to booking without delay, she adjusted her schedule to ours since we had just flown in after a 32 hr trip..and it was wonderful. she speaks English very well, answered our many questions about Japanese society and culture. we ate in wonderful places that were not filled with other Americans. We had matcha tea in a beautiful temple garden, and learned the proper way to drink Matcha. we could not have found a better guide. we spent a bit of time exploring a small part of Yokohama, and she gave us confidence in being able to use the subways and bus system. Thank you for everything...it was very special.
