Overview

This tour covers the temples and shrines that house the Seven Lucky Gods in Kamakura one after the other in one day. You can complete this adventure in 8-hour trip from Tokyo. Gathering goshuin, red seal of each spot can also be a good commemoration of your visit to Japan. Moreover you will be able to enjoy the panoramic view of Mt Fuji beyond Sagami Bay at Enoshima, the first shrine of the tour.

What to Expect

I found that people who have already been to the major temples and shrines in Kamakura would like to explore deeper attraction of this historic town. To pay a visit to the seven lucky gods is one of the best ways to learn more about Japanese belief as well as samurai history. As elements of Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto, and native reliefs merged to create a syncretistic fusion of religion in Japan, they are the gods believed to bring good fortune. Actually, there are temples and shrines that enshrine the seven lucky gods nationwide. The custom of shichifukujin-mode, where people pay a visit to the seven gods around the time of the New Year is popular in Japan. But visiting the seven lucky gods in Kamakura is popular throughout the year. Why not experience the mysterious world of the unique belief? I'm sure you'll appreciate hidden attractions of Kamakura.

“ Patient, kind, knowledgable in history and pop culture and good with kids!!! ”

Touring with Mayumi was one of the best decisions we made when planning our trip to Japan. She met us at our Airbnb and guided us through traditional customs, tourist spots, history and the railway system all while keeping it interesting. Mayumi was very knowledgable and engaging. We had 4 kids with us (ages 9, 11, 12, 13) and Mayumi seemed to connect with them and make them giggle. We toured 2 days with Mayumi in Tokyo seeing shrines, gardens, Skytree, Tsukiji (outer) Market, Gotokuji Temple, Monster Kawaii Cafe (a highlight for the kids), Pokemon store, Shibuya Crossing, Ginza, Harajuku district and more. She was very relaxed and patient, even with the kids' vending machine and snack obsession. She also had great suggestions for things to do after we parted ways. Mayumi also... read more

MAYUMI:

Thank you so much for posting such a warm and detailed review, Falon. It was a kind of exciting experience for me to find the hidden air bnb. That made me even happier when I finally met you finally. I won't be able to forget the pleasant days we spent together for good. I liked to see your kids trying to eat everything and enjoying Japanese culture. They were polite, and willing to adapt themselves to our culture. We have a saying, "The kids grow up as they were raised." I'm impressed how you are well educating your four children. I do want to see you all someday again. Please say hello to your husband and kids. I loved you all!!

“ We loved Mayumi ”

Mayumi is amazing and the best! She met us at our hotel full of energy, excitement and ready to guide us through our day. We chose her based on her background with history and were not disappointed at all, in fact it was more than what we could have ever expected. Our day was filled with facts, informations and overall just good company. We experienced a great lunch based on her guidance as well. I simply cannot say enough good things about her. I would highly recommend her for sure. Thank you Mayumi for a phenomenal day.

MAYUMI:

Davena, I just noticed that my reply to your comments has yet to reach you though I did write to you before. I'm sorry about that. Anyway, thank you do much for writing such a great review. That was a beautiful day. We had so many things to see, so eat, and to shop in a limited time that our tour was fruitful and pleasant. As I thought the hair stick you bought was really pretty, I got back to that shop the next day to buy one for me. Now I remember you every time I use it. I'm looking forward to the next opportunity I could guide you other interesting places. Thank you for everything again. I love you too, Davena!

“ Best guide in Tokyo ”

This is not my first trip to Japan. I have had many guides in the past. We hired Mayumi for Tokyo tour with our kids. Her English is excellent. She’s very knowledgeable and interesting tour guide. I highly recommend her for anyone seeking an English language tour of Tokyo.

MAYUMI:

Thank you for your writing a great review soon after our tour. It's very kind of you, Brian. It was a pleasant day with several happy unexpected things, which would make your stay in Tokyo even more unforgettable. I can imagine how all of you are enjoying every single moment after Tokyo as well. I hope you discover more yummy food and interesting culture in Japan. Thank you again and please say hello to your family.

“ Wonderful guide who planned our tour perfectly ”

We spent four hours with Mayumi walking through the Tsukiji outer fish market and around the Senso-ji temple in Asakusa. With three teenagers I often find it hard to keep their interest in cultural sights but all three said how much they enjoyed Mayumi’s commentary (a rare thing for them to say about a guide!). She was interesting and tailored her comments to what she thought the kids would be interested in. She didn’t bore them with too many historical facts. She took us to eat the best sushi in the fish market and showed us other famous food places such as Funawa which had the best soft serve green tea ice cream. Mayumi is highly knowledgable but more importantly has a fun personality and I would highly recommend having her as your Tokyo guide.

MAYUMI:

Thank you so much for your comment, Karen. I'm happy to hear your words. Although we spent only 4 hours, we had a pleasant time. I really appreciate your kindness. I'm sure you are enjoying your stay in Japan. How was the arcade in Akihabara? Did your kids see how Japanese so-called Otaku boys playing games amazingly well? Or your kids might be better gamers than them? And, speaking of ramen, Tenkaippin is one of a nationwide chain of pork-broth ramen, whose head shop is in Kyoto. It's so famous that many ramen fans go there when they are in Kyoto. But my recommendation is Daiichi-asahi near Kyoto Station. If you go there, you should do it early in the morning because there would be a long line in front of the shop from about noon to late afternoon. Please tell this info to your kids. I ho... read more
