What to Expect

Once the samurai capital of Japan, Kamakura is surrounded by hills on three sides and by an ocean beach on one side, which was the major reason for the first shogun Yoritomo to choose Kamakura as the site of his government. On this tour we first enjoy the beach area of Kamakura by taking a bus from Kamakura station to the extreme eastern side of Zaimokuza Beach to visit Komyoji Temple. This temple is the head temple of Jodo sect in eastern Japan, with the biggest wooden gate in Kamakura and two great ponds, one is a lotus pond where lotus floweres from 3000-year-old seeds bloom in summer, and the other is a rock garden with eight rocks representing Buddhas and great Buddhist masters. After the visit, we drop by a compound of huge tombstones belonging to the Naito family, enjoy walking of Zaimokuza Beach, where we can see Wakae-jima, the remains of the oldest man-made port which was the only international port in Japan around the 13th century, then go up along the Wakamiya-oji, the grand approach to Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine. At the Geba crossing, we turn left and take a bus at Rokujizo-mae to visit Great Buddha. Hase Temple, the second oldest temple in Kamakura, is several minute-walk from Great Buddha. After coming back to Kamakura station from Hase station by the Enoden Line, we'll enjoy shopping at Komachi-dori street.

“ Wonderful Tour Of Kamakura ”

We spent the day with Eri visiting the sights in Kamakura. Eri has a delightful personality and a great sense of humor. She is very knowledgeable of Japanese history and culture. She takes the time to describe what you're seeing and the wealth of history in each place you may visit. Eri is very patient and will answer any questions you may have. We also enjoyed a nice lunch with her during the tour. She kept us on schedule and helped us get back to the train station at the end of our tour. Thank you for a great experience!

“ Kamakura was the highlight of our trip ”

Eri’s wonderful guided trip around Kamakura was the highlight of out trip to Japan. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything in great detail. Besides the main sites, she took us through interesting neighborhoods and a delicious restaurant for lunch. Most of all, Eri was extremely flexible and helpful with my elderly parents. She was able to make adjustments at the last minute to our walking tour to accommodate my father’s difficulties with walking. Eri’s tour is a must!

“ Fabulous tour with a fabulous guide ”

My wife and 13 year old twins spent a truly memorable day in Kamakura and Enoshima Island last week with Eri as our guide and she went above and beyond to make sure we had a visit we'll never forget . To begin, we were very interested in seeing Hokokuji Temple and Eri was extremely flexible in adding it our itinerary without cutting anything out of the tour. In additon, we visited Hachiman Shrine and the shopping district, had a wonderful lunch at a local spot, stood in awe at the Great Buddha, took a short (but interesting) train ride on the Enoshima over to Enoshima Island, and viewed many impressive sights on the Island itself. Along the way, Eri was prepared with volumes of knowledge to educate us and made us feel comfortable every step of the way. At days end, she accompanied us to our train to make sure we didn't get lost, which was much appreciated! The sign of a successful trip is one that makes you sad to leave and anxious to return someday. Our Japan was one we'll never forget and Eri was a big reason for that. Book a tour with Eri. You'll be glad you did!

“ Wonderful introduction to Kamakura ”

My wife Sandra and I spent a great day in Kamakura with Eri. She knows Kamakura inside out and she clearly loves it, which was apparent from the way she showed many of its highlights to us. Eri met us at the station dressed in a beautiful kimono which was a delightful touch. The tour designed for us took us to several temples around Kamakura and her explanations of the history and significance of each of these places were interesting and helpful to our understanding. Eri went out of her way to assist us with things that were of interest to us. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in a lovely vegetarian restaurant that Eri especially chose for us so we could experience some of the local cuisine. She is particularly good at putting you at ease and at providing information to match your level of knowledge about Japan and Kamakura in particular. We very much enjoyed our experience with guide Eri and would not hesitate to recommend her to others visiting Kamakura.

“ A perfect day in Kamakura ”

My sons (aged 14 and 12) and I decided to visit Kamakura as a short-getaway from our Tokyo trip. As I was travelling with my teenagers, I was looking for someone who could show us around all the shrines and temples (which could otherwise have been boring without any guide). We're very happy to have found Eri. Eri is an excellent guide who knows Kamakura very well. Dressed in a kimono, she has a pleasant personality and a lovely smile which makes her approachable and we felt immediately at ease with her. She was also very accommodating especially to our shopping request and didn't complain at all when our timing ran a little late for the tour. It was indeed a perfect and memorable day for my boys and I in Kamakura. I would highly recommend Eri to be your guide if ever anyone visits Kamakura.
