Overview

Kamakura is a popular tourist destination about an hour train ride away from Tokyo, having various historical sites such as temples and shrines. It also has natural beauty, surrounded by mountains and sea, and also many attractive small shops and restaurants. We walk around the city, dropping in at popular spots, hidden sites, and neat shops on the main and back streets - like locals do.

What to Expect

This tour can be customized according to your request.
Kamakura is roughly categorized into 6 areas. I recommend choosing 1 to 2 areas for a half-day tour.
Based on you interest, I can include an activity - Hiking – walking in mountain trails for about 60 minutes.
Please let me know your requests in advance. I’ll take it consideration into making an itinerary.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

“ Tokyo & Kamakura ”

We were a group of 6 for Tokyo tour and 4 for Kamakura. Aki is a good guide; very patient, polite and professional. He knows the subject matter and explains well; sometimes we wished he gave us more details or background history. He gave us an excellent orientation of the subway stations and how the Japanese rail system worked. We wished he did a better of job of time management. Eg. in Tokyo, the Imperial Palace which was the first place we visited we spent too much time; actually you can do this without a guide and at Kamakura we again spent too much time at the first sight Engakuji temple; as a result we then had to rush around. Also Aki should have done a better research for taking us for lunch; because when lunch time came, we had to scramble and look for restaurants and in Tokyo we wound up eating at a very mediocre place.

“ The Imperial Palace and First Impressions ”

We are grateful that we were able to spend half a day with Aki at the beginning of our stay in Tokyo. He was engaging, helpful, and the perfect Host for Tokyo. His initiative, concern for our well-being, attention to detail and service orientation were impressive. The best compliment I can give is that we are very much looking forward to spending our next tour - in Nikko on Monday - with Aki! Can't wait!

“ Wonderful and caring guide ”

We enjoyed our day with Aki. In advance of our tour of Hakone, Aki checked in several times to confirm the time, the itinerary and even give us clothing suggestions due to the weather. He also purchased train tickets for us in advance so that we were guaranteed to get a seat. He gave us interesting facts about the area and was seamless in his navigation during a very crowded time in Hakone. Aki also went above and beyond by staying with us to make sure we got to our ryokan at the end of the tour. His English and knowledge of the area are excellent. He is easy-going and friendly. I highly recommend a tour with Aki.
