What to Expect
People in Kagoshima played very important roles during the Meiji Restoration, dynamic transition period of Japan’s modernization in 19C. Nariakira Shimadzu, 28th feudal lord, is one of the most well-known leaders at those times.
1. Sengan-en & Shoko-shuseikan
Let's enjoy Nariakira’s spectacular landscape garden and his residence along with heritages of industrial technologies he had introduced from western countries and developed in 19C. Some of the component parts of the world heritage are also located here.
2. Terukuni shrine
Let's visit one of the most well-Known shrine in Kyushu, which is dedicated to Nariakira, and feel the atmosphere of local lifestyles because a lot of residents visit here on occasions of seasonal events and family ceremonies, etc.
3. Mt. Sakurajima
Mt. Sakurajima is a very active volcano, and registered as “Sakurajima-Kinkowan Geopark”. Although it is located only 4km away from Kagoshima city across Kinko-wan bay, it often erupts and emit thick columns of smoke. If you are lucky, you will see an incredible sight, the smoke going up to 4,000～5,000m high.
Let's enjoy the landscape of whole Kagoshima city from the observatory, and relax thoroughly while bathing in a hot spring or a foot bath.
