The best access to Naoshima from Osaka/Kyoto is by Shinkansen(bullet train) to Okayama, and then by local train and ferry.
I can meet you at Okayama station and accompany you to Naoshima island.
It takes approximately an hour from Osaka/Kyoto to Okayama, and the Shinkansen fare is 7010yen per person one way.
Mari has been an essential help for our trip in Naoshima from the beginning (when we started to design the itinerary) to the end of the trip. She has helped more than enough on every preparation step, discussing what would be the ideal option for us. Also, she has kindly recommended the best places and restaurants to visit according to her local expertise. During the trip, all the guests were very impressed by her kindness and spent a wonderful time. Whenever there was a small issue, Mari suggested a solution with great responsibility. Therefore we deeply appreciate her professional and generous help throught our stay in Naoshima.
Mari is simply the best especially if you are considering visiting Naoshima otherwise known as the Art Island in the Inland Sea of Japan. From Shinkansen to one local train to a second local train to a ferry to a public bus to a museum bus Mari led us to the adventures of this incredible island. Believe me I needed a guide to navigate the complex process of getting there and it is worth the effort if you are interested in modern art and a peaceful island. Mari was so considerate of accommodating our special interests even as we were traveling. Mari takes that extra step to ensure our journey went well. Hiring Mari for a day of adventure at Naoshima is unforgettable.
Mari is very pleasant, and I'm glad to have found her as a guide. I really wanted to go to Naoshima even though it is a bit of a journey from Osaka as a day trip, and was very happy to see her offer this trip. Not many offer this tour. She made things easier than if I tried to do this trip on my own within a short amount of time. We went to visit the major highlights around the island, and she was kind enough to check on crowds and reserve museum ticket in advance. After spending a day here, I'd love to come back to Naoshima if I get a chance.
Mari was awesome! Especially since we were probably the worst group! First of all, we booked it so late! We only started talking to her 2 days before our planned trip, and she still accommodated us. Also, we had many requests that she was able to accommodate as well. 1. She helped us book a private van for 4 on very short notice, and it was a relatively good price too. 2. I mentioned that my mother and father can't walk too far, as they are quite old. She was able to come up with a great itinerary with not too much walking, and then she asked the driver to drop us off and pick us up in areas that would reduce the walk. That was very helpful of her. She was very pleasant, spoke great English and was overall a great guide to be with. I wish we booked her longer than just half a day. We would definitely try to book her as a guide again next time we're in Japan. Thank you so much Mari for a great experience and hope to see you again soon! :D
Mari was a pleasure to be with all day. She was very attentive to what we wanted from the shopping tour. She tried her best to bring us to what we wanted to buy. Lunch was a great experience eating Okonomiyaki where we had to cook ourselves. We had a few laughs trying to flip the pancake over to its other side. I couldn't recommend Mari more. She is patient and eager to please. Thanks Mari for being a great guide. Regards, David and family
