We'll visit three places, rich in Japan's history and culture. Firstly, Himeji Castle designated as Japan's first World Heritage Site in 1993, and ranked 7th as a place to visit in 2019 by NY Times. And Kokoen Japanese Style Garden nearby. Finally, Engyoji Temple, ranked 20th by TripAdviser in 2019 as a representative spiritual spot in Japan. Himeji is 1-hour away by the Shinkansen from Kyoto.
Feel free to personalize this offer with Shogo.
Getting off at JR Himeji Station, you will be astonished by the breathtaking view of Himeji Castle. It is often called "white heron castle" with its image of a white heron spreading it wings to take off. Let's walk through the main street to the Castle about 1 km away from the train station.
Now you are at the main castle gate. Behind you is the beautiful castle tower. You can walk up to the top. You will enjoy its beautiful scenery like feudal lords and princesses did in the 16th century. Now you are a samurai lord or an elegant princess. After the castle you will visit traditional Kokoen nearby. It is famous for its Japanese style garden and samurai residences.
Now you may be starving. Why don't you try Japanese dishes such as sushi, tempura, and Chinese style noodles?
After lunch, off we go to healing Shoshazan Engyoji Temple, about 25-minute ride away. Shoshazan Engyoji Temple is the 27th temple of the 33 temples appointed as pilgrimage sites in Western Japan. Back in the day, a bunch of people including aristocrats visited here from across Japan to pray for peace and get peace of mind. It's still retaining the very quiet atmosphere of the 10th century. So today it is noted as a shooting place for samurai TV dramas and films like "The Last Samurai" played by Tom Cruise.
transportation fee to and from JR Himeji Station (you only), transportation and ropeway fees in Himeji area (about 2,000 JPY per person, you ond guide), entrance fee (1,600 JPY per person, you only), lunch (you only)
I can also guide you in Hiroshima (Peace Memorial Park, Miyajima), 1-day tour. My transportation fees to/from Hiroshima cost about 20,000 JPY, return.
1 Himeji Castle has rather steep stairs up to the castle tower. No elevators. And on Mt Shosha, we will walk 20 minutes (1 hour if we don't
use a minibus) in the temple complex. So if you have lovely infants on your tour, please ask him or her to wait for the next chance.
2 After visiting Himeji Castle and Kokoen Landscape Garden, we'll head for Shoshazan Engyoji Temple by local bus and ropeway.
3 Shoshazan Engyoji Temple is located on the hilltop about 1,000 feet high. Temperature will be a little lower than the Castle area.
4 After visiting the temple, we will again take a ropeway and a local bus back to JR Himeji Station.
5 This is a one-day tour starting and ending at JR Himeji Station.
6 We are asked to take off our shoes when entering Himeji Castle tower and the main building of Shoshazan Engyoji Temple. read more

Shogo is the best Tour Guide we had during our Circle To Japan 13-day Cruise. Shogo is highly organized and he planned our trip real well. He handed each and everyone one of us the JR pass, the timeline of our trip, and the other relevant information of our tour. We had a very memorable tour and enjoyed Shogo ‘s patience with us. I will highly recommend Shogo to everyone. All the best to sn excellent guide!
Dear Angelina, I am so much grateful to your hearty review. Your tour group of 3 couples from Kobe cruise ship pier were so warm-hearted and cheerful that our 1-day-Nara & Kobe tour was super memorable. I'm like "You all are "Gone With the Ship!" Anyway, time flies. So please remain to be lovely Tourmates forever. Thanks for everthing, Angelina. You are a super tour leader. Best regards, Shogo
Our day trip in Nara and Osaka was great thanks to Shogo san, he was very kind and knowledgeable about the places we wanted to visit which allowed efficient time usage in each place. Shogo was also very efficient in replying every time before the trip about any questions we had, which was superb and helped us take nice pictures at the beautiful attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and if we need a guide in the area again, will definitely look for Shogo.
Dear Tracy, Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our tour in Nara & Osaka. Indeed it's always my great pleasure being a guide for such a lovely couple so interested in Japnanese culture, such as sake and mochi pounding (rice cake pounding) in Nara. Just amazing! I learned about beautiful Singalore from you, which renewed, my awareness of the importance of diversity. By the way I asked you to wave on your way from Osaka to Awaji Island following day. And in myself I did see you waving onboard a train, I might be still a little drunk, though. So another Kampai!! Thanks for everything, Tracy. Best regards, Shogo
Shogo was a great tour guide! Highly recommended!
Dear Rachel, Thank you very much for your nice review of our tour. I hope you enjoyed strolling in Gion, Kyoto's most popular Maiko/Geiko area. Also I'm happy that it was not so warm for this time of the year. Quite comfortable in the evening with a nice breeze blowing over a Kawayuka, riverside summer terrace. Indeed chatting over a glass of wine was great fun. Let me try beer, Rachel Special, next time. So Kampai!!:) Best regards, Shogo
Shogo was very informative, communicated very clearly and timely and was even better in person as our guide. He puts in extra effort to make sure we had an excellent time! He even sent us pictures after. Highly recommend Shogo!
Dear Dan, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. It was my pleasure showing you and your nice family in Kyoto and Osaka, including Kyoto's Iwatayama Monkey Park in Arashiyam and Osaka's Kaiyukan Aquarium. Very glad to hear it was great fun for you. Please give my best regards to your kids full of energy. Hope their dreams will come true. I'll be checking out a piano concert and a surfing competition televisied on TV. Thank you very much, Dan. From Shogo.
Shogo was amazing. He met us on time, provided an itinerary for the day and also some interesting facts about Japanese history. Shogo was very knowledgeable about Osaka and Kyoto. We had an awesome time. Thanks Shogo for 2 great days.
Dear Renate, Thank you very much for your hearty review of our 2-day tour in Oaka and Kyoto. On the 2nd day I was a little bit afraid it might be too warm for your lovely kids to stroll in Kyoto, because the day time high was nearly 30 degrees centigrade. However, they are indeed ice hockey lovers with lots of stamina. Hopefully you all revisit Japan (especially for your kids to enjoy Japanese food & for your cool husband, yuzu-sake) in the near future. Many thanks to Renate. Best regards, Shogo
