Otaru is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hokkaido. Once the city flourished as the center of business in Hokkaido and a herring fishing port. This unique history has created Otaru’s charming cityscape. Many historical buildings remain here and there in the city, telling the tales of Otaru’s past.
We had great day with Yumiko notwithstanding a morning of heavy rain. Yumiko has a wonderful knowledge of Sapporo and its history. She was able to not just show us the sights of the city but also the story behind them. We had the good fortune to see summer ski jumping at the Olympic ski jump and also a traditional Japanese wedding at the Hokkaido Shire and a summer street event. All unexpected and all great. I would highly recommend taking a tour with Yumiko.
We had an enjoyable day with Yumiko visiting the Historic Village and Hokkaido Shrine. She is very knowledgeable and we learned about Hokkaido's past. We also asked about Japan's train, subway & bus system and so many other topics. Yumiko's English is great so we were able to understand each other. Thank you Yumiko!
Yumiko was my guide for two days in Hokaido. She was absolutely fantastic. She was informative, knowledgeable, punctual and friendly. The first day we went hiking up a mountain in Minami-Ku, Sapporo. The panoramic view at the top of the mountain was awesome. The trail was covered with tall trees and the music of birds and insects was amazing. After the hike we walked to an onsen(hot springs) and enjoyed the delicious Japanese style lunch. After lunch we went to the onsen to relax. Next to the onsen we took a tour of the Ainu Museum which Yumiko was very knowledgeable. The second day she took me to the breakwater in Sapporo for fishing. This was the first for me in Japan and I enjoyed the ocean air. I even caught fish. We ate lunch at a fish market restaurant and I had a delicious seafood Japanese style lunch. We headed to Otaru to tour a sake factory and Yumiko explained how sake was made. I had a great time with my guide in Hokaido. I highly recommend Yumiko on your next trip to Hokaido. I definitely plan to return to Hokaido. Thank you Yumiko for the "Omotenashi" Roy Hawaii
