Overview

Miyajima Island, one of the most scenic spots in Japan, has long been regarded as an Island of Gods on the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. It is a romantic and historical island where Itsukushima Shrine, a World Heritage site, is located, along with the Virgin Forest of Mt. Misen, and numerous preserved shrines, temples and historical monuments.

What to Expect

Miyajima is a small island less than an hour outside the city of Hiroshima. It is a very romantic and relaxing place. It is most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. The sight is ranked as one of Japan's three best views.
you can walk around Miyajima to see Itsukushima shrine, in the public's mind. Like the torii gate, the shrine's main buildings are built over water, Five story pagoda and Buddist hall.
you can also visit Daishoin temple, one of the most important temples of Shingon Buddhism. It features a variety of buildings, statues and other religious objects for visitors to admire.
There are also wild deer on the island that have become accustomed to people. In the day the deer wander around the island.
Oyster landed in Hiroshima is very big and thick tasty, and Hiroshima is the number one of landing of oysters in Japan. There are some oyster shops that serve grilled oysters and vinegared fresh oysters to visitors in the Miyajima Island.
Okonomiyaki is the most famous as Hiroshima soul food, cooked with superposition of cabbage, bean sprouts, pork, egg and noodles, which is soba or udon, on thin flour dough spread like crepe.

“ Mt Misen and Itsukushima Shrine tour ”

This tour was the first of two tours that I took with Kazumi and it was great. Kazumi arrived at my hotel at the prearranged time and we took a taxi to Hiroshima JR train station, then we took the Ferry to Miyajima Island. When we arrived, it was high tide and water covered the entire base of the Itsukushima Shrine and you could not walk to the shrine. After a short lunch, it was off to Mt Misen and after two tram rides, we were ready to hike to the top of Mt Misen. Kazumi indicated that it would take about 1 hr to hike up, but I thought I read that it was a 30-min hike. Kazumi was right, it took a good hour to hike up to the top. The cool October weather was great. The uphill hike is mainly on stone steps and many areas do not have hand railings, so you have to be careful and a f... read more

“ New adventure Hiroshima ”

Ms. Kazumi is really fun, energetic and kind person. She also can speak English fluently and gave us a lot of informations about hiroshima also with its history. She gave us a lots of options which to go first and gave her opinions. We went to a memorian hall, peace park, museum, etc in the morning. At lunch we we planned to eat okonomiyaki, but for some reason the places were booked so we can’t enter the shop. She asked us if we want to eat lunch near there or go to the Miyajima. We decided to go to Miyajima and eat our lunch there. She recommended us Oyster food in Miyajima. It was really fantastic! Also she recommend the the best Momiji Manju souvenirs in hiroshima (for me). Despite the bad weather, we really enjoyed spending time with her! Won’t forget this amazing experience!

Kazumi:

Thank you for your wonderful comment, Nicolleta. I was happy to be your guide although so many unexpected things happened today. You and your family are very easy going and accepted many changes. Today's experience actually made me think I need a lot of options for any matters during tours as a guide. Thank you for a picture of us and good luck for your future. Kazumi

“ Excellent Guide for Touring Miyajima/Hiroshima ”

We booked a tour of Miyajima and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park/Museum with Kazumi. Kazumi met us at the Hiroshima station transfer gate (we came in from Kyoto by Shinkansen) and then took the train to the ferry to Miyajima. Kazumi was excellent in explaining about the ‘floating’ Torii gate and the Itsukushima Shrine and the resident deer there. We had a pleasant lunch on the island at a delicious Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki restaurant. We all enjoyed the lunch and only wish we had a restaurant like this at home. After lunch, we headed over to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park/Museum and Kazumi explained the sites around the park. It was a somber experience but one I think all should see. Kazumi is a very nice person with excellent english and we all (myself, wife and two sons)... read more

“ Superb guide in Hiroshima/Miyajima! ”

WE booked Kazumi for 5 hours when our cruise docked at Hiroshima in late May. She was already waiting for us when we disembarked, and did a good job explaining the various sites of the atomic blast in Hiroshima. She then took us to a local restaurant which served Okonomiyaki (fried noodles on hot plate). Thereafter we took a ferry to Miyajima Island, where we strolled along the beach and enjoyed the sights. We had a great time in Hiroshima/Miyajima, thanks to the professional service of Kazumi.. Kazumi is highly responsible, courteous, and knows the local scene very well as she was born and bred in Hiroshima. She also speaks very good English as she has lived abroad for a number of years. I have no hesitation in recommending Kazumi to any future travellers.

Kazumi:

Thank you very much for your great review. I also enjoyed talking with you and your family. I could learn a lot from you and had a good experience as a guide. Please give my best regards to your family. I hope to see you sometime soon, maybe in Hong Kong! Kazumi
