Overview

Itsukushima or Miyajima is one of the three scenic locations in Japan. It is a World Heritage island that has been worshiped as a sacred island since ancient times. In Miyajima you can find a unique culture created by a synthesis of Buddhism and Shintoism with combining the two religions. Visit the shrines and temples around the island and learn more about history of Miyajima.

What to Expect

1. Itsukushima Shrine
- It is said that the shrine was established by Saeki-no-Kuramoto in the 6th century. There has a magnificent vermilion trii gate, which stands in the sea.
2. Daishoin Temple
- It was found in the 9th century by Kobo Daishi or Kukai, the founder of the Shingon school of Buddhism. The oldest temple in Miyajima.
3. Daiganji Temple
- In the main hall, there are four Buddha statues which are designated as a National Important Cultural Property. One of the four is Yakushi Nyorai Zazo, a seated statue of Medicine Buddha and is said to have been made by Kobo Daishi.
4. Senjokaku (Toyokuni Shrine)
- Hall of One Thousand Tatami Mats and Five-storied Pagoda. It is dedicated to the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi (one of famous feudal lords in the 16th century.) The construction of the hall still remains unfinished today.

Hi. I'm Michi.
I’m a national certificated tour guide in English. I would like to introduce many faces and charms of Japan and make your stay in Japan more fascinated and satisfied.

My specialty is tours of Hiroshima. In Hiroshima, there are two famous World Heritage Sites.
I have experienced many tours of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Park since I was a junior high school student. I would like to introduce you the a-bomb legacies that still existing in the city.
I also would like to share time with you in a historic island, Miyajima. There is one of the most famous Shinto shrines, the Itsukushima Shrine.

I also an official ‘A-bomb legacy successor’ designated by the City of Hiroshima. An A-bomb Legacy Successor is a memory keeper of the A-bomb survivors. To ensure that the A-bomb survivors' experiences and desires for peace are faithfully inherited and shared with as many people as possible, the City has started a three-year training program for official ‘A-bomb Legacy Successors.’ It is possible to include my lecture in my tour. It is appreciated that if you could let me know upon your booking.

“ Like a family ”

Michisan is a distinctive guide from those I used to meet in that she could join my group so well that the kid loved her. She always tried to help everything as much as she could, not to let her know. This is really a good trait for the company to gain advantage over competetitors and I am sure that in the future, guiding a tour would change to what Michisan has acted. Please let her know that our group would not forget her, especially her goodness to teach us some Japanese. Recommended.

“ Excellent tour of Hiroshima sights ”

Michiru is a delightful, skilled and knowledgeable guide. Prior to arriving in Japan she recommended many options for places to visit and experience. We worked together to select a day full of activities and experiences, from cultural to cuisine. She arrived to meet us a few minutes early, of course polite, smiling, and with very good English speaking skill. We reviewed the plans for the day and set out to tour the Hiroshima area. My family and I all very much enjoyed her many discussions on the history and culture surrounding the city of Hiroshima. As our tour progressed, Michiru would take notes for further research into questions we may have asked, and sometimes she would write a note to present to us with a translation from Japanese to English regarding common spoken words. This was a great help in improving our Japanese vocabulary. Michiru has a commanding knowledge of the history and culture surrounding Hiroshima which she shared with us throughout the day as we toured the area. We were comfortable and relaxed with Michiru guiding us and encouraging us to partake of the ceremonies associated with the shrines and temples. We enjoyed a pleasurable day of touring, learning, and dining that we hope to repeat with her again in the future.

“ Very nice & accomodating ”

I really appreciated that Michiru was able to book us on a very last minute basis, like the evening before the day we were arriving. We did not give her much time to prepare at all, and she did a great job considering. She was nice, took us everywhere we wanted to see, plus a little more, and knew a great place for lunch.
