The attractions of this nostalgic port town named " Tomonoura" are within distances from the bus stop and it's comfortable walking. You may be surprised to see KUBIZUKA( the mound for severed head ) is among old houses where people live their every day life. In this small fishing town, life and death coexist naturally. Time is passing slowly in this town.

Have you seen enough of temples and shrines? How about spending a relaxing time in a small town that preserves a historic atmosphere? Tomonoura is a port town at the southern end of Fukuyama city, Hiroshima prefecture. Located at a bay facing the Seto Inland Sea , the picturesque fishing port town has a calm and laid-back atmosphere . Tomonoura is a part of the Setonaikai National Park, which has been picked as a filming location for movies such as " The Wolveine" starring Hugh Jackman and " Ponyo on the Cliff" by the popular Studio Ghibli. We visit there by bus which runs from Fukuyama Station every 20 minutes. Fukuyama Station is on the JR Sanyo Shinkansen. Direct Sakura and Nozomi shinkansen trains connect Hiroshima / Shin -Osaka to Fukuyama Station, costing about 4420/ 7340 JPY one way. The Japan Rail Pass fully covers the trip on Sakura trains but not on Nozomi trains.read more

Loved working with Azusa! She was super helpful and responsive during the planning phase, and during the tour all our group members loved her and her pleasant disposition, as well as ability to provide a lot of helpful historical and current information. She was the best guide we had in our two weeks in Japan. In addition, her English is very good and can be easily understood. Thank you Azusa!
Dear Ziad san I appreciate your kind words. Thank you so much. Your comment made my day! You and your friends are vey nice to each other. You treated me as if I were a member of your group and it was great to talk with all of you. Time passed very quickly. I need to apologize for one thing. I got you up the many steep stairs in Himeji Castle. Some of your members seemed to be sore the next day. I got sore one week later. It is said the pain comes late for aged people. I hope you and your friends are not soured on this and will come to Japan again ! Sincerely, Azusa Arita
FABULOUS GUIDE!!! Will highly recommend her to friends!!!
Dear Marylin san Thank you so much for your kind words. It was raining on and off all day. However you are all bright and cheerful in that restless weather. I got a lot of energy and nice jokes from you. " Discover this covered gate!" Let me use this joke in my tours. All the best !
My husband and I truly enjoyed visiting Hiroshima with Azusa. Her English is very clear and we learnt a lot about not only Hiroshima but Japan as a whole too. We highly recommend her.
Dear Hilary san Thanks for the lovely comment and a beautiful photo. I am often said that I look like a Japanese female comedian named Haruna. I realized that in this photo. It was a short tour. I am so happy if you fully enjoyed HIroshima City's lively but laid -back atomosphere. Talking to both of you made me all warm and fuzzy. That was a fantastic time for me. The big Torii gate's repair is expected to be finished next October. Please come back to Hiroshima next fall. Sincerely, Azusa Arita
Azusa was a wonderful guide. She managed to take us a day early at late notice as our day in Hiroshima was changed due to weather conditions on our cruise. Her English was very good and she was very organized getting us to the places we wanted to see and back to our boat on time. Thank you Azusa for a great day and we really enjoyed your friendly personality!
Dear Mark san Thank you so much for your wonderful message! It is such an honor to be told that. Your kindness made me friendly. That was a quick trip but if you fully enjoyed Hiroshima food and Miyajima’s peaceful atmosphere, it makes me so happy. With more time, I could have shown you other unique places in this island. When the big gate’s repair is finished, please come to Hiroshima again. Wishing you a great future !
Azusa is the ideal guide...,.knowledgeable, patient, caring and an excellent ambassador for Japan. She made sure that we saw the highlights of both Miyajima and Hiroshima. She spoke excellent English and very flexible. She took our pictures and truly gave us beautiful memories.
Dear Cora san I am so thankful for your kind words. Your are all warm-hearted people,open-minded and very easy to talk to. I felt like a member of your group rather than a guide. I wanted to go with you. You said this was the first visit to Hiroshima for all of you. Though the hot weather was a little hard and the deer looked a bit exhausted, I hope this tour would be one of your best memories. Bon Voyage! Azusa Arita
