What to Expect

Have you seen enough of temples and shrines? How about spending a relaxing time in a small town that preserves a historic atmosphere? Tomonoura is a port town at the southern end of Fukuyama city, Hiroshima prefecture. Located at a bay facing the Seto Inland Sea , the picturesque fishing port town has a calm and laid-back atmosphere . Tomonoura is a part of the Setonaikai National Park, which has been picked as a filming location for movies such as " The Wolveine" starring Hugh Jackman and " Ponyo on the Cliff" by the popular Studio Ghibli. We visit there by bus which runs from Fukuyama Station every 20 minutes. Fukuyama Station is on the JR Sanyo Shinkansen. Direct Sakura and Nozomi shinkansen trains connect Hiroshima / Shin -Osaka to Fukuyama Station, costing about 4420/ 7340 JPY one way. The Japan Rail Pass fully covers the trip on Sakura trains but not on Nozomi trains.

“ Fabulous and informative visit to Hiroshima ”

My husband and I truly enjoyed visiting Hiroshima with Azusa. Her English is very clear and we learnt a lot about not only Hiroshima but Japan as a whole too. We highly recommend her.

Azusa:

Dear Hilary san Thanks for the lovely comment and a beautiful photo. I am often said that I look like a Japanese female comedian named Haruna. I realized that in this photo. It was a short tour. I am so happy if you fully enjoyed HIroshima City's lively but laid -back atomosphere. Talking to both of you made me all warm and fuzzy. That was a fantastic time for me. The big Torii gate's repair is expected to be finished next October. Please come back to Hiroshima next fall. Sincerely, Azusa Arita

“ Great tour of Hiroshima ”

Azusa was a wonderful guide. She managed to take us a day early at late notice as our day in Hiroshima was changed due to weather conditions on our cruise. Her English was very good and she was very organized getting us to the places we wanted to see and back to our boat on time. Thank you Azusa for a great day and we really enjoyed your friendly personality!

Azusa:

Dear Mark san Thank you so much for your wonderful message! It is such an honor to be told that. Your kindness made me friendly. That was a quick trip but if you fully enjoyed Hiroshima food and Miyajima’s peaceful atmosphere, it makes me so happy. With more time, I could have shown you other unique places in this island. When the big gate’s repair is finished, please come to Hiroshima again. Wishing you a great future !

“ Miyajima and Hiroshima ”

Azusa is the ideal guide...,.knowledgeable, patient, caring and an excellent ambassador for Japan. She made sure that we saw the highlights of both Miyajima and Hiroshima. She spoke excellent English and very flexible. She took our pictures and truly gave us beautiful memories.

Azusa:

Dear Cora san I am so thankful for your kind words. Your are all warm-hearted people,open-minded and very easy to talk to. I felt like a member of your group rather than a guide. I wanted to go with you. You said this was the first visit to Hiroshima for all of you. Though the hot weather was a little hard and the deer looked a bit exhausted, I hope this tour would be one of your best memories. Bon Voyage! Azusa Arita

“ Great overall experience! ”

Thank you Azusa san for a geat overall experience inspite of the weather not being very cooperative (raining most of the day). You shared a lot of interesting information and made sure our group got the most out of our trip. We highly recommend your services to other travelers.

Azusa:

Dear Vineet san Thank you so much for your kind words. The reviews I receive motivate me. You are all cheerful and jolly people. Though the weather was not so good and unfortunately the Torii gate was covered, your people seemed to appreciate life as it happens. That was a fantastic time for me to be with you. I wish you all the best ! Sincerely, Azusa Arita

“ Our guide made visiting Hiroshima a more personal experience ”

Visiting Hiroshima is bound to be a moving and also disturbing experience. Azusa was a great companion and guide on this journey. She put together an excellent itinerary, including the use of JR bus (free with rail pass), and she accommodated our preferences both in the planning and on the spot. We learned a lot from Azusa and appreciated our conversations, and instead of feeling overwhelmed and lost, we were able to participate actively in the lantern floating, thus sharing in the common appeal of so many Japanese and visitors for global peace.

Azusa:

Dear Helene san Thank you so much for your kind review. The tour day was so humid and the heat was killing us. I apologize you for making both of you walk long way in such a muggy weather and finishing up the tour earlier than scheduled. It was me who learned a lot from you. You knew well what is needed and not needed in your tour. You told me about your sea kayaking experience in Miyajima Island, which was very inspiring for me. I have never thought of that activity in my tour plan. I again realized that tour guides should try as best as possible to match guests’ desires. I wish you all the best and success in the future
