Overview

Hakone has been boasting its beautiful nature and historical background. Many hot bathing spots, a beautiful and tranquil lake and a wild volcanic vent will welcome you. You can enjoy a gigantic view of Mt. Fuji on a fine day. You will find Hakone shrine, a check point house and an old cobbled pathway by the lake. You can also enjoy traditional local foods and wooden mosaic works.

What to Expect

Hakone was registered as Japan Geopark in 2012. Hakone is rich of nature, such as a lake, forests, hot springs and even a volcano vent. The beauty of Hakone changes from season to season. Mt. Fuji can be seen clearly especially during Autumn and Winter.
Hakone also has many historical touring spots. Hakone shrine, which stands by Ashinoko lake, has been worshiped since ancient times. One of the Main highways in Edo era, called Tokaido, ran through Hakone moutains. So it was a good place to set a check point in order to stop suspicious persons entering Edo area. That's why we can enjoy experiencing an old atmosphere of Edo culture here.

“ Great guide and person ”

We have spend a day in Hakone with Kaneo. Although weather was not good and the rope ways were closed due to volcanic activities it was great to spend this day with him there. We had a kid in our group and Kaneo made all efforts that the kid was not bored (e.g. origami 😀). He provided many important information to prepare for our stay in Hakone prior the tour. We recommend Kaneo as he is a very nice person, his English is very good and he has great knowledge about Japan.

Kaneo:

Thank you for your kind review. I am happy to hear you enjoyed Hakone tour in spite of a bad weather. It is really a pity that we could not see Mt. Fuji. But I myself enjoyed Hakone with a pleasant group like yours.

“ The Best First Day in Tokyo! ”

If you’re looking for a guide in Tokyo, and Kaneo is available, book him ASAP! He is the best of the best! I’ll start out by saying that it would have taken my husband and myself a full week to do all the things we did with Kaneo in just one day. This is not an exaggeration. I based my initial requests to Kaneo on my “Lonely Planet” guidebook’s “must do” list. We were able to do all of them, plus several more sites and activities. By booking this tour with Kaneo on our first full day in Tokyo, we were able to be more relaxed with the rest of our days there. Taking the pressure off the rest of our days in Tokyo was an invaluable result of our tour with Kaneo. I must mention Kaneo’s awesome itinerary PDFs that he sent leading up to our trip. These files included his own personal ph... read more

Thank you for your kind and long review of my guide. I am very happy to know you enjoyed my guide so much as to evaluate it very high. I also feel happy to know I could show you some of good things of Japan, including our “Omotenashi” mind. I also appreciate your kindness to bring me a precious souvenir and a letter. Best regards, Kaneo

“ Excellent guide and well worth booking Kaneo’ ”

Kaneo planned out our route and day with precision as we went to many of the places you would want to see. An excellent guide that took the time to ensure we were happy. Always smiling and a great attitude that my 11 year old son and I were very happy with. I’d book him again no question.

Kaneo:

Thank you for your excellent review. I am really happy to hear you enjoyed my guide, inspite of a chilly cold weather. The weather is getting better. I believe you can enjoy the rest of your trip in Japan. Best regards Kaneo Uetake

“ Walking tour of the Port of Yokohama ”

From our first contact Kaneo was professional and easy to work with. We were a group of 6 on our tour. One of the things he recommended we do was a stop at a convenience store for a snack. He assisted us in purchasing "rice balls" (really a triangle) and beverage. We walked to a beautiful area overlooking the water and enjoyed the view and our snack. Several in our group were hesitant about eating the rice balls, but all were pleasantly surprised and glad they had gone along with the group. In my research I found that Yokohama is the sister city to San Diego, CA, USA, where we had lived for 17 years. They each have special statue commemorating this. Kaneo located it and made sure we saw it as we returned to our cruise ship thru the beautiful park it was in. He was quick to suggest addition... read more

Kaneo:

Thank you for your long and precise review. I am happy to hear you enjoyed my guide. Yokohama is my home town, but I learned much about it when I prepared for your trip. You are really interested in lots about Yokohama, including historical ones, which stimulated me to explore Yokohama more. Thanks again. Kaneo
