Overview

Hakone is a popular destination for a day trip from Tokyo, located 60 miles or 100 kilometers southwest of the megalopolis. The beauties of nature – forested steep mountains, gorges, volcanic activities and a crater lake - feature in Hakone.
We'll go around Hakone, using various means of transportation to explore the mountainous area, dropping in at must-see spots.

What to Expect

We'll follow Hakone's golden route and visit two major sightseeing spots – Lake Ashi and Owakudani (Great Boiling Valley), for a day trip.
Weather permitting, we'll enjoy magnificent views of Mt. Fuji from those areas. Even if we can not see Mt. Fuji, we will enjoy grand views of nature.
We can enjoy cruising on Lake Ashi by a Pirate Ship and through the sky by a ropeway (cable car), feeling the power of volcanic activities at Owakudani valley.
Hakone is also famous for its excellent hot springs. We can soak away our worries and fatigue by immersing ourselves in a hot-spring bath.

This tour presents an example itinerary for you. However, I can re-arrange it according to your requests. If you have any requests, please let me know in advance.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

An example itinerary

08:00 am
Meet at your hotel in Tokyo and move to Hakone-Yumoto by a train.

10:30 am
Arrive at Hakone-Yumoto station and change to a bus bound for Lake Ashi.

11:30 am

At Onshi-Hakone Park, we can get different views of Lake Ashi and neighboring mountains.

12:15 pm
Walk to Hakone-machi port through Hakone Checkpoint. This is a reconstruction of the feudal-era barrier that controlled travel between parts of Japan.
Take lunch at a Japanese culinary facility beside the lake.

Board a Pirate Ship at Hakone-machi port and enjoy cruising on Lake Ashi.

01:45 pm
Arrive at Togendai port and change to a ropeway to Owakudani valley.

03:30 pm

05:00 pm
Arrive at Hakone-Yumoto station and the tour ends.
If you go to continue to Odawara station, I’ll escort you to that station.

I'm a first-timer for onsen bathing. Could you tell me onsen etiquette?

Don't worry, I'll show you the etiquette at an onsen facility.
Onsen facilities are basically communal bathing places. There are three points to remember when bathing in an onsen facility.
1. Take all your clothes off before entering bathing area. Wearing a swim suit isn't allowed.
2. Before you get into a bath tub, wash your body at washing space.
3. Don't put your towel into a bath tub in terms of public hygiene.
Although, most of the onsen facilities don't accept people bearing a tattoo, there are several facilities tolerant of a tattoo.
Using a private bath might be a good option.
If you have any anxieties about enjoying onsen, please let me know in advance.

Can you arrange a private car? How much does it cost for a car?

Yes, I can arrange a private car, van and minibus according to your request.
The cost varies, depending on type of car, time and mileage.
For example, it costs approximately $345 USD for 9 hours and 2 passengers.

Can you escort me to my hotel?

Yes, I can. If your hotel is located in Tokyo or Yokohama, please pay Hotel escort fee.
Guide’s transportation fare to the place is also required to be paid.

Can you pick me up at an airport?

Yes, I can, however, during the daytime only.
If you use Narita Airport, please pay the extra fee.
The rate of the extra fee is same as the extra-hour fee. Please pay the extra-hour fee for two hours when you book.
In case of Haneda Airport, you don't need to pay the extra fee.

Can I make changes after I book?

Yes! If you need to make changes such as removing or adding someone to your booking or changing the date or time of your tour, contact us by phone or email

After booking a tour, the guide will accept (or decline) your booking within 24 hours. Then you will be noticed by email from Triplelights.

Is the price per person or per group?

The price is charged per group. Which means that you make a one-time payment for your entire group and the price will not change if it is less or more people.

“ Peaceful Tokyo ”

It was my first day in Japan, and after a mind-numbing flight I asked my guide Aki for the chance to have a calm and peaceful day, plus an opportunity to learn about culture and how to get around. It was excellent. Began the morning in a temple observing a ceremony. Visited quiet parks, temples and smaller museums. Yes, we had some busy areas but overall it was a calm and beautiful day.

Aki:

Dear Ken, Thank you so much for giving me such a wonderful review! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed a tour of peaceful places in Tokyo. I enjoyed talking with you while touring. It was nice to meet you and my pleasure to have guided you. I hope you have a great time during the rest of your days in Japan. Thanks for choosing me as your tour guide! Sincerely, Aki

“ Mt. Fuji: A Trip of a Lifetime ”

Aki is immensely a kind, caring and knowledgeable guide. He speaks English fluently. He made everything comfortable for our family from arranging the bus booking in advance for us to fetching us to our hotel going to Mt. Fuji. He also provided me with the weather update at Mt. Fuji so we would could prepare well for everything. Best of all, Aki made our Mt. Fuji tour priceless! The itinerary he arranged for us was great, from our cruising on the Lake Kawaguchiko to the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway and our relaxing walk around Oishi Park. Even our lunch in one of the restaurants in Oishi Park was really delectable. In the evening when we returned back to Shinjuku, Aki still assisted us even if it was past his schedule with us. We were asking him of the direction going to one shopping... read more

Aki was an amazing guide ! He was so kind and accommodating for our group of 4 . We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary’s and he truely made this a memorable trip . We made such wonderful memories and were so lucky to have had him as our guide . He kept us on schedule and made sure that we saw all of the sights that we had hoped to see . Due to unforeseen weather , with his guidance , we shifted our plans last minute but still had an excellent day :) we would have been lost without him ! We highly recommend him ! Thank you Aki!
