You will be able to find the historical importance of the Heritage for various aspects including Silk Mill technology, advanced architecture and Japanese women lavor history and tremendous efforts & result by them for the technology improvement.
The main criteria registered as World heritage are as follows.

1. Tomioka Silk Mill had contributed a lot to the silk industry in the world. The high quality of raw silk and the silk warm breeding technology had spread over the world and contributed the world wide silk industry expansion. The plant was the largest size of silk plant at the time-flame which is 140 meter length,12 meter breadth and 12 meter hight. After the factory be privatized, this Silk Mill technology finally had become the world leading technology and had produced the Silk products as world number one volume until this factory had ceased to operate in 1987.

2. The architecture of the plant has been completely reserved without damage from the year of 1872 when this plant was built with using most advanced architectural technology applied to this plant.
Followings are key technology applied.

a) Fairly large scale of silk stock space was required for the silk stock building. Due to establishment of this large scale space, this plant had survived for
around 110 years from 1872 to 1987. All the space inside this plant silk produced required the construction without pillars. To achieve the subject,
the new construction method imported from France was applied.
b) This silk production need huge volume of water stocked. Therefore, large size of tank which can stock water of 400 liter was manufactured using iron.
This is the beginning of iron usage for modernized industry.
c) The wall of plant building is made by red brick and that of roof is by Japanese tile. This style is combination of western and Japanese construction method
which is called timber frame brick construction. This construction load the weight of the building to pillars and beams. To achieve reliable tolerance of this building,
all kinds of materials are quickly prepared from the local area of Gunma and executed many trials for those.

3. The labor environment in Tomioka Silk Mill was good condition for female that was rare case in the world that is one of the criteria selected as World heritage.
Seven days working system with one day off on Sunday and 8 hours working time per day and 10 days vacation for each summer and New year’s were applied as t
he female working condition which was introduced from France. The fee of foods and boarding were paid by the plant.
As shown above, Tomioka Silk Mill is not the tour spot that provide beautiful landscape, brilliant & gorgeous architecture and easy understanding traditional history. However, this show very important value of historical and technical view points and after you understand the value, you will be very much impressed for this Tomioka Silk Mill.

“ Great Guide ”

We spent an entire day with Kashima. As promised, he met us in our lobby at 830am. We had a busy day planned and he helped us navigate the subway and trains to get to six different areas throughout the city. He made us a dinner reservation and helped us find a great hole in the wall spot for lunch. He also purchased our transit passes in advance. Kashima was funny and has better than basic English speaking abilities. Although his pronunciation was difficult to understand at times, his understanding of our questions was fine. He was able to answer anything we asked. He also prepared us a tour packet in advance that we enjoyed, and he allowed us to make changes on the fly without question. I would use Kashima again.

Philips san, Thank you very much for your great comments for me. I am very much appreciated that you spent lots of effort to study Japan tour spots before you come here and made a very condensed tour plan including the best spots such as Asakusa/Sensoji temple, Tokyo tower, Imperial palace, Zojyoji temple, Meiji shrine, Takeshita-street and Shibuya crossing. The combination of ancient traditional atmosphere and that of the best modernized town was very nice to feel the excellent contrast. We enjoyed to talk with each other about not only Japanese history and culture for each spots but also various topics and comparison for both USA and Japan. I am looking forward to meeting with you again for your next trip in Japan. Thanks, Kashima

“ Amazing! Cannot imagine a better guide! ”

Had a great day trip to Kamakura! Kashima provided a detailed itinerary based on my wishes and was flexible and I changed and added some things. We had tea ceremony per my request in jomyoji temple, which I would highly recommend! Kashima met me promptly in my hotel and provided me with a printed and bound copy of our intinerary as well as pictures and detailed information about our day. He was flexible as I wanted to stop various places and shop. He was so friendly and helpful and I had the absolute best day! Highly recommend Kashima!

Rebecca san, Thank you very much for your kind review as great as any. And I appreciate you for taking a little risk to go Kamakura tour under the condition of typhoon approaching to Kanto area on the day. Fortunately, the whether was sunny in the morning and you could enjoy a tea ceremony experience in Jomyoji temple with very quiet circumstance without any tourists there. I think that you could feel deep feeling of Zen Buddhism related atmosphere combined with the dry landscape garden. I also very much enjoyed with you by lots of information exchanged each other and I could learn a lot by receiving lots of interesting questions from you. I am looking forward to meeting you again in future and getting lots of new questions from you. Thanks, Kashima

“ Three day Tokyo / Nikko tour ”

Great time with Kashima san. Excellent pre-trip planning, prompt, flexible, good suggestions. I can’t imagine a more efficient user of public transportation, we covered Tokyo as if we were in a private car —- only faster. In Nikko, when it rained, we modified our trip on the spot, so we could see everything we wanted. Oh, and there were nine of us he was keeping track of.

Jim san, Thank you very much for your great message to me. I am very much pleased that you kindly offered three days tour guide to me and all of your group enjoyed and satisfied the tour. “ Midnight Tour ”

Many thanks to Kashima for staying up late to show our family some interesting parts of Tokyo during our odd-hours layover at Haneda. We could not have found a nicer guy for our tour guide. He took good care of us and arranged a fantastic taxi van and driver. Very comfortable, and I'm very grateful he chose places that would be fun for my kids. I hope we have a chance to visit Tokyo again - if so, we'll definitely contact Kashima to show us around! Highly recommended. Thanks again, Kashima!!

Gordon san, Thank you very much for your kind and great comments for me. I am very much pleased that you, your wife and your two kids could enjoy the midnight tour of Tokyo and Tokyo surrounding. We at first visited the midnight amusement park in Ichikawa-city in Chiba prefecture from Haneda airport by riding a Van taxi on high-way with watching beautiful midnight sightseeing. After your kids enjoyed several games there, we went a midnight restaurant and took a very late dinner. Then, we drove around midnight Tokyo by visiting several spots such as Marunouchi (many skyscrapers standing with lots of illumination), Roppongi hills, Tokyo tower and Rainbow-bridge with beautiful night view of Tokyo bay. Specially, we once got out of the car near Tokyo tower and took pictures. You all were so im... read more
