Overview

Don't you want to know how the Samurai spirit ‘Bushido’ was raised and kept in those days in Japan? You will find the answer by joining this tour. In this tour, there are four elements relating to Bushido; Castle, Tea-ceremony, Sword and Japanese paper ‘Washi’. I am sure you will realize that these cultural elements contributed to create a unique Japanese refined value of life.

What to Expect

You will enjoy four Japanese traditional cultures through one-day excursion from the castle town ‘Inuyama’ in Aichi to two small towns Seki and Mino in Gifu.

First you will visit a National Treasure Inuyama Castle which is the oldest castle in Japan. You can touch and feel the authentic wooden building, climbing steep and narrow steps toward the upper floor. On each floor, you will see some antiques, maps and documents to learn stories about the castle. From the top, you will have a panoramic view while strolling along the outside balcony.

Secondly you will visit another National Treasure, tea-house ‘Joan’ in Inuyama. It is located in a beautiful Japanese garden near the castle, You will find a simple aesthetic value based on Zen Buddhism in it. You could also drink matcha-tea in an adjacent tea-house in the same garden. Once,matcha-tea tasting gave samurai a moment of relief between battles. You might feel it,too.

Next you will visit Seki Traditional Swordsmith Museum. You can not only learn the history and the forging-process of swordsmiths but also enjoy seeing many masterpieces of swords and knives. Many visitors give a sigh of admiration to see them. Then you will drop in some cutlery shops where you enjoy shopping for souvenirs.

Finally you will visit a small cozy town Mino, the hometown of Japanese paper ‘Washi, which was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2014. You can learn how hand-made durable paper ‘Washi’ is fabricated. You can also enjoy strolling around traditional building areas which include beautiful old houses and fancy shops.

“ Good communicator and detailed oriented ”

Tetsuji and I planned the trip together where I indicated what interested us and he gave us helpful suggestions. On the day of the tour he met us at the hotel and we traveled together to the museums (Feather, Traditional Swordsmith Museum) and a knife factory, where he had arranged a personal tour by the factory president! As we had time we before our scheduled train to Tokyo Tetsuji took us on a short walk to old Minoota. We would highly recommend Tetsuji.

TETSUJI:

I also enjoyed planning the tour and now got relieved to have accepted your nice review. Both you and Mary are curious traveler making me happy to answer questions. I am looking forward to making a plan again with you. Thank you.

“ Very patient and understanding ”

We were terribly delayed getting off the cruise ship. Tetsuji was very kind, although he waited a long time. Adjusted our schedule very well. We had a terrific lunch and he got us back to the ship on time. Highly recommended. A true gentleman.

TETSUJI:

Thank you so much for kind words. I’m sorry for a hectic guided tour due to customs problem, but I’m relieved you have enjoyed lunch so happily. I really wanted to enjoy having hot springs with you after that. I am looking forward to seeing you again.

“ The best kinds of tours are ones with local guides! ”

I am so happy that my first experience with TripleLights was with Tetsuji-san! He was very knowledgeable about many things in Gifu and so very friendly! Tetsuji-san's command of English was also very good! My friend and I greatly enjoyed our tour of Gifu with Tetsuji-san. Tetsuji-san was extremely flexible with our itinerary, I had time to do a bit of exploring on my own and ended up going to some of the places on our original itinerary so Tetsuji-san modified it for us. He took us to this beautiful park that would look even more amazing in Spring, something I would not have been able to find on my own. Visiting Shouhouji was an experience as well as we were fortunate enough that the temple master was there to give us a history tour of the temple. Unfortunately due to weather co... read more

TETSUJI:

I can’t thank you enough for your so much appreciation to me, though you regrettably didn’t enjoy viewing Ukai on the boat. I apologize to you instead of the mayor. However, I believe his decision was correct from the security point of view. As you mentioned, you always have a next time. I am really looking forward to seeing you in the not-so-far future.

Tetsuji guided our clients in Seki city. He was excellent to work with prior to the tour and helped arrange all the tour details. He went out of his way to assist these passengers and even provided a discount for the entrance to visit the Swordsmith museum. I'm sure our passengers had a great tour and we will be using Tetsuji's services again in the future!
