What to Expect

Chiba city is located about one hour from Tokyo by train.
We will visit the following spots to see Japanese culture, food and technology by the Chiba City Monorail.

1. Chiba Castle
Chiba Castle is a reconstructed castle located in Chiba city. The original castle was built in 1126 by the lord Tsuneshige Chiba, who owned this region. The prefecture name “Chiba” comes from his family. The current castle is actually a reconstruction from 1967.
It now houses the Chiba City Folk Museum. The exhibits are mainly related to the Chiba Clan. You’ll find all sorts of artifacts like swords, guns, and other samurai weapons.
A small tea house is located beside the castle. You can rest, drink tea, and eat Japanese sweets there.

2. Chiba Shrine
The Chiba shrine is a Shinto shrine originated in 11th century. Shinto is indigenous religion of Japan. It is based on the worship of nature and ancestors. The shrine is dedicated to the Shinto deity Myoken who is believed to offer protection from bad luck and bodily harm. The shrine buildings are painted a brilliant orange in a way that makes the surroundings seem peaceful.
There are picturesque Japanese gardens around it. You can feel sacred atmosphere.

3. Sogo Chiba department store's food floor
The Sogo Chiba is the largest department store in Chiba Prefecture and is located near the Chiba station. It offers a wide range of quality products including traditional Japanese artwork, food and many more. Many famous food shops are located on its food floor with a lively atmosphere. Some foods are cooked on site. The smell of freshly baked bread or the sound of tempura being deep-fried attract customers.

4. Chiba City Monorail
We use the monorail to go to the Chiba castle. The monorail runs at an elevated height of 30m above ground level, so, you feel like you’re walking on air. This monorail was registered in the Guiness Book of World Records as having the longest running distance (15.2 km) of any suspended monorail.

“ Trip to the RyuKyuKan Flood Control Network ”

Eddy was an absolute joy as a guide. We had a very unique request, of going to the Tokyo area flood control system, a huge underground cavern used to protect outer Tokyo. He gladly accepted such a unique tour. My wife an I were really surprised and pleased to see he even faxed our hotel to make sure we knew where to meet him! He also filled our long train rides with all kinds of fun activities, like learning about Japanese writing, history, and important phrases. Over lunch, he even taught us how to make oragami! He was very kind and patient, and we had a wonderful time. Thank you so much Eddy!

Eddy:

Thank you very much for the wonderful review. I was pleased to guide you, a nice young couple from US. I hope you will enjoy the rest of your honeymoon in Japan. Eddy

“ Very good and interesting tour with Eddy ”

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Eddy who not only showed us what was described on the itinerary like the Castle Museum , the Shinto Shrine and the shopping centre (where we bought excellent sashimi at ridiculous low price) but also enlightened us on Japanese culture. He showed us the correct ways to pray at the Shinto Shrine for example which was interesting. As it was our first time navigating the public train and bus system his patience and guidance was invaluable especially if we plan to travel further in Japan. Travelling with a local really broadens the experience.

Eddy:

Dear Chun and Gwen, Thank you so much for the warm review. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour with me. I hope you will come back to Japan again soon. Best regards, Eddy

“ The best tour guide we have ever had! Look no further. ”

We have been privileged to travel the world and have had many guides. Eddy will forever stand out as the best tour guide. He was so informative, kind, and it felt like you were spending the day with a relative. We learned so much about the Japanese culture. He packed in a FULL day so that we could see everything we had asked to see. He was extremely organized, and all we had to do was just enjoy the tours. His English is excellent. I would highly recommend Eddy.

Eddy:

Dear Lisa and Steve, Thank you so much for the kind review. I am very happy to hear your words. Although the weather was not very good, we visited many popular spots in Tokyo and saw unique culture. It was good that you got good luck with a sacred lot at Sensoji temple in Asakusa. I also felt lucky to talk with a lovely couple and to learn how to enjoy life. Thank you again and please enjoy your tour in Hakone and Kyoto soon. Eddy.
