Overview

This is a private tour by van from Akita Port/JR Akita Station/Akita Airport to visit Samurai District in Kakunodate and Lake Tazawa. Six samurai residences remain in Kakunodate, making it one of the best places to see an example of a Japanese castle town. Lake Tazawa is the deepest lake in Japan, and its sapphire-blue lake is astonishingly beautiful.

What to Expect

1. Kakunodate
--Ishiguro House: The descendant still lives in this house, and he can greet you at the entrance! The Ishiguro Family was the highest rank samurai family existed today in Kakunodate.
---Aoyagi House: In its large estate, there are the main house and six museums where you can touch some of the arms. There is a restaurant where you can try Akita speciality noodle called Inaniwa-udon, and an antique shop.
---Kawarada and Odano were middle class samurai and their beautiful Japanese gardens are now connected and you can walk in the gardens.
2. Lake Tazawa
As the lake is the deepest in Japan with its depth of 423.4 meters, the color changes from jade green to indigo blue, depending on the season and the depth of light that penetrates the water. The lake doesn't freeze even in winter.

My name is Akiko, national licensed English-speaking tour guide. I'd be happy to help you in your adventure in Japan. I love traveling myself, and I actually traveled extensively in the world and also within Japan. I am interested in history, archaeology, and culture. So I believe I can be good company as well while being your guide. I love to meet new people because there is always something new to learn from them. And I enjoy learning new things.

I was born and raised in the city of Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture which is located in the northern tip of the main island Honshu in Japan. I lived in Tokyo and worked with Americans for 30 years, and recently moved back to my hometown where I belong.

I can offer you a tour in Akita, Iwate, Tokyo, Kamakura, and Hakone/Mt. Fuji area as well. There are so many interesting destinations in Japan. Please come and visit Tohoku (northern Japan) where you can enjoy Japanese real local life and people. Looking forward to meeting you soon!

“ Mahalo Akiko! Aomori Automn Tour ”

Akiko provided our family with a "world class" tour of autumn colors in Aomori! Arrangements and schedule were seamless, and the background history she provided at each attraction was outstanding. Thank you Akiko for making our tour in Japan most memorable! Aloha, The Date Family.

“ Akiko went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our trip ”

Akiko spent a lot of time organising and researching so that we had a perfect day. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed the special effort made by Akiko. Our agenda went smoothly and we had the best opportunity to spend time at the Samurai houses with the families before it became busy. I would recommend Akiko to anyone looking for a tour as you will be very well looked after.
