Overview

Visiting two distinctive castle towns make you more familiar with the soul of Japan. One is Inuyama, where visitors can see and touch two national treasures, Inuyama Castle and tea-house Joan. The other is Gifu, where a modernized castle on the mountain and a hidden golden Great Buddha-statue make visitors sigh in admiration. This tour will satisfy your curiosity you might have about Japan.

What to Expect

You will enjoy one-day excursion visiting both a castle town ‘Inuyama’ in Aichi and a local capital city 'Gifu'.

First you will visit a National Treasure Inuyama Castle which is said to be the oldest castle in Japan. You can touch and feel the authentic wooden Japanese castle, climbing steep and narrow steps toward the upper floor. On each floor, you will see some antiques, maps and documents to learn stories about the castle. From the top, you will have a panoramic view while strolling along the outside balcony.

After lunch, you will move to Gifu city and go up to Gifu Castle standing on Mt Kinka (329m high) by ropeway, where you will have a nice view again and enjoy seeing many antiques, pictures and documents. You can also enjoy feeding squirrels near the ropeway terminal.

“ Seki city and the swordsmith museum! ”

Tetsuji guided our clients in Seki city. He was excellent to work with prior to the tour and helped arrange all the tour details. He went out of his way to assist these passengers and even provided a discount for the entrance to visit the Swordsmith museum. I'm sure our passengers had a great tour and we will be using Tetsuji's services again in the future!

“ Wonderful Day in Gifu ”

We had a wonderful tour with Tetsuji in Gifu. My wife and I took my elderly parents on an extended tour of Japan. The Cormorant fishing tour guided by Tetsuji was one of the highlights of our visit. He was conscientious about our needs and adjusted the tour to keep with my parents pace. He was engaging, open and friendly.  Tetsuji connected with my father especially well as they shared similar interest in feudal Japanese history. We became quick friends. We can't recommend Tetsuji highly enough. Not only is he an excellent guide, (as he was able to show us many cultural highlight that even many locals don't know about), Tetsuji treated us as real friends. We hope to see Tetsuji again soon either in San Francisco, Shanghai, or Hangzhou where we spend time. We look forward to taking him on a personal tour of our cities.

TETSUJI:

Thank you for fabulous appreciation. I am very glad to have shared happy time with you and your family members through my guided tour. Actually, I was able to guide at ease because all of you communicated with me as if I were a member of your family. Above all, your respectable father asked me various questions including the title of a Japanese song. I sometimes enjoyed answering them setting my duty aside. I believe you are a role model of filial piety and your father will be happy. I repeatedly thank you so much. I am really looking forward to seeing you again.

“ Trip to Takayama ”

Tetsuji was very nice and enjoyable to be with. He was flexible in terms of our adding places we wanted to see in Takayama. His English is very good. When we asked questions he couldn't answer, he worked hard to find someone who could answer them. We know that Tesuji is fairly new to this, and expect that he will gain more knowledge of Takayama as he takes more clients there.

TETSUJI:

Thank you for nice review for me. I appreciate your kind words that encourage me committing to brush up my guide skills. I believe all unexpected questions from guests could be important ingredients for me to develop. I will make every kind of efforts to get full score. I am looking forward to guiding for you next time.

“ Interesting trip to Takayama Spirng Festival and Inuyama & Gifu Castles ”

Tetsuji was our guide for 2 consecutive days. He is very friendly and flexible with his itineraries; and he went the extra mile to ensure our needs are met. Instead of meeting at the JR station as per his iitineray, he came all the way to the hotel to meet us. He is also very honest. When I wanted him to do a tour to view sakuar near his hometown on 14 April, he did not want to commit as he wanted to check with the meteorological station nearer the date to make sure that there were flowers on the particular day. A few days before 14April he emailed to say that there will be flowers in Takayama which coincided with the first day of the spring festival. He rushed to get us train tickets on the wide Hida train and paid with his own money first. We had tickets for the first class cabin and the experience was fabulous. He also took us around the shopping streets in Takayama and the old town too. The next day after we toured the castles, he arranged for us (at my request) to visit a traditional umbrella making artisan. This was not part of the itinerary but Tetsuji obliged me and went out of his way to do it. Despite being a Sunday and the shop was not opened, he managed to arrange for us to visit the shop. He used his personal car to drive us to the shop to save time and dropped us back at the train station in Gifu. Such is friendly, obliging, knowledgeable and flexible with the itinerary. Oh before I forget, he took us to the traditional Japanese dessert shop in Aichi for my favorite Sakura mochi. A trip to Japan is not complete without getting my fix of the Sakura mochi. Thank you Tetsuji for being our guide. Wishing you every success.
