Overview

Visiting two distinctive castle towns make you more familiar with the soul of Japan. One is Inuyama, where visitors can see and touch two national treasures, Inuyama Castle and tea-house Joan. The other is Gifu, where a modernized castle on the mountain and a hidden golden Great Buddha-statue make visitors sigh in admiration. This tour will satisfy your curiosity you might have about Japan.

What to Expect

You will enjoy 1-day excursion visiting both a castle town ‘Inuyama’ in Aichi and a local capital city 'Gifu'.

You can touch and feel the authentic wooden Japanese castle, climbing steep and narrow steps toward the upper floor. On each floor, you will see some antiques, maps and documents to learn stories about the castle. From the top, you will have a panoramic view while strolling along the outside balcony.

It is located in a beautiful Japanese garden near the castle, You will find a simple aesthetic value based on Zen Buddhism in it. You can also drink matcha-tea in an adjacent tea-house in the same garden. Once,matcha-tea tasting gave samurai a moment of relief between battles. You might feel it,too.

After lunch, you will move to Gifu city and go up to Gifu Castle standing on Mt Kinka (329m high) by ropeway, where you will have a nice view again and enjoy seeing many antiques, pictures and ********** can also enjoy feeding squirrels near the ropeway terminal.

Finally, you will visit 'Ukaiya' area that is the home town of cormorants 'U' which are birds used for traditional fishing event on the Nagara River. Visiting Nagaragawa Ukai Museum, you can learn everything about cormorant fishing. I worked as a public servant in the local government for 35 years. I belonged to the department of Redevelopment, Town-Landscaping and Architectural Guidance. (I have a national 1st-class architect license.) I devoted myself to revitalizing the city by making plans and improving infrastructure for citizens.
Gifu is located in central Japan near Nagoya. There are many unique tourist points to discover that are hard to find in hectic big cities like Tokyo and Kyoto. I had a hand in restoring and preserving many of them throughout my career and want to introduce them to tourists from abroad. That’s why I became a guide-interpreter in Gifu.
I also enjoyed traveling around the world. My favorite part of each trip was walking around the city and talking with local residents. Traveling has taught me many things during my lifetime. Now, I would like to help others have similar experience in Japan. read more

“ Highlight of our Trip to Japan ”

We were fortunate to have Tetsuji as our guide. He provided a wonderful experience for us as we got to see Gifu Castle, Cormorant Fishing, and Kawara-machi... we also enjoyed Squirrel Village & shopping. In addition, we relaxed in the open air Onsen at Hotel Park, under the beautiful moonlight with a view of Gifu Castle. Tetsuji was very flexible, personable & easy to understand. Highly recommended.

“ Gifu/Cormorant Fishing ”

Tetsuji was an amazing, excellent and very personable guide to beautiful sights of Gifu. Highlights were visit with cormorant fishing master, viewing boat spectacle of cormorant fishing (with delicious dinner box) on Nagara river, giant Buddha viewing, trip to Gifu Park with Ropeway ride then short hike to Gifu Castle, and panoramic night view from observation floor at top of skyscraper near Gifu station. It was a great day!!! One that my husband and I will always remember thanks to Tetsuji.
