What to Expect

We start in Asakusa, which is visited by more than half of the overseas tourists. Here you will encounter Tokyo’s oldest temple Sensoji Temple, as well as the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), which is the outermost gate of Sensoji Temple as well as the street lined with old-school shops that lead to the inner precincts of the shrine. Many of the stores here offer services in English and you can also get your omikuji in English at the Sensoji Temple temple. Omikuji is a small piece of paper on which one's fortune is written and can be found in many temples and shrines.

After Asakusa, we depart to Akihabara, which is continuously abuzz with tourists from all over the world. Akihabara is a pop culture mecca representing anime and manga and is popular as a tourist sightseeing spot largely due to the concentration of stores specializing in Japanese electronics.

Upon leaving Akihabara we head to Shibuya, the youth mecca Shibuya of Tokyo, which the famous scramble intersection world’s busiest intersection, with 500,000 people crossing it daily. Besides the shopping and cuisine, you can enjoy the unique atmosphere of this neighborhood.

Finally, we finish our tour in Tokyo in one of the most famous shrines in Tokyo, the Meiji Jingu Shrine. Located in the Shibuya district in Tokyo and near Harajuku Station and Yoyogi Park, this shrine attracts the greatest number of visitors from throughout Japan for hatsumode or the first shrine visit of the New Year. If you happen to be lucky enough on the day of your visit, you could catch a glimpse of a traditional wedding ceremony.

“ A very enjoyable experience ”

T-chan was friendly, and kind. She was very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. At the safety center, she was invaluable. Without here I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the center nor the simulation as well as I did as the staff did not speak Engllish. With her acting as an Interpreter I was not only able to understand their lessons and instructions but they were able to understand my questions. T-chan was an excellent interpreter. Not only this but she was also able to explain the relevance of the center and Japanese culture in general. I would also recommend this as a tour idea. The center was very informative and I really enjoyed the simulator. We were told to get under the table on our knees. I could barely stay on them as the motions were very intense. Due to rain, she was willing to be flexible enough to change the itinerary from the Japanese garden into a "cat cafe" It was a good choice. I really enjoyed it. Since there aren't any cafes like this that I know of back in the States, it was a unique experience. It was very relaxing. As someone that loves animals, it was like heaven. The cats are able to walk around the cafe and interact with the patrons as much or little as they want. They aren't forced at all. It was a very nice place. I can't recommend T-chan highly enough. She will definitely increase the value and enjoyment of your time in the Tokyo area.

“ Riko escorted two teens through Tokyo for an entire day ”

Riko was, in the words of my jaded 15 year old son, "unbelievably awesome." She was able to engage two American teens for an entire day, and the time the two spent with Riko in Akihabara was the highlight of their one week trip to Japan

“ Great day and itinerary ”

Mayumi was a wonderful and informative guide! She made arrangements for our family to participate in Sampuru making workshop in Kappabashi and also guided us through Tsukiji inner and outer market in the morning. She was flexible while keeping us going from one destination to the next and also had wonderful insight and knowledge about the areas we visited and about Japanese language and culture in general. She even shared suggestions for what to see in the remaining time we had in Tokyo based on our interests. Highly recommended!

“ Fantastic tour and very responsive to our needs ”

Riko provided an excellent experience for our first time in Tokyo. She communicated with us ahead of time by email to finalize details. She was very conscientious about asking us what our interests were at the beginning of the tour and went out of her way to meet those needs throughout the day. She provided a great deal of information about Tokyo and each of the sites we visited. We even enjoyed our lunch together and learned so much about the food and customs. It was a truly memorable day. I highly recommend her as a tour guide. You won't be disappointed.
