We really enjoyed our day with Shinya. We started the day by visiting the beautiful Meiji-Jingu shrine, and we learned a great deal from Shinya about the history of the shrine, Japanese history, and the Meiji period. He was also very helpful in explaining ritual and customs in the shrine and helped us appreciate the beliefs and attitudes motivating the rituals. After the shrine, we visited the Cat Cafe, famous in the guidebooks but which we cannot recommend, and then walked through Takeshita street and the Harajuku neighborhood -- a lot of fun people-watching and shopping. Finally, we walked over to the Omotesando district, where we really had fun looking at the extravagant shops, the beautiful people and the cool cars; and Shinya had helpful knowledge about some of the amazing modern commercial architecture in the area, which we really enjoyed seeing. Shinya was thoughtful and interesting, and spoke excellent English. He was also caring and thoughtful about our well-being and interests, and worked hard to give us a wonderful day. We would look forward to working with Shinya again if we come back to Japan.
