Mayumi is the best private guide we have ever met. She went overboard to accommodate all the wishes of our granddaughter, Sarah, who choose the trip to Japan as her high school graduation gift from us. Sarah had a long list of places she wanted to see and do, which for the most part are all related to historical related places and shrines, etc. She is obsessed with amine and all the samurai characters involved in these videos. Not only that, she knows all the names and history involved in that period….very well! Mayumi went out of her way to put together a great 5 day tour including everything on Sarah’s list. So, Mayumi is flexible, knowledgeable, personable, open to new places (she had to do research to hunt done at least one of the monuments that Sarah wanted), energetic, but also sympathetic to those not able to keep up the whole time, and best yet, relatable to all people of different ages physical abilities and interests. I just can’t say enough about how great she was. It made our whole trip just wonderful, even though, at the end of each day, we were all exhausted!!! There was a lot of walking involved, but Mayumi found as many elevators and escalators as she could to save me from having to go up so many flights of stairs!!! There was a lot of rain on some of the days, but we all kept on going. Every morning Mayumi was back to take us on another day. Our last day was going to be seeing Mt Fuji, but a couple days before it was obvious that the weather was going to be terrible and no good views, so we decided to do something different. Within just a few minutes, Mayumi was able to rearrange the plans for the last two days and as it happened, the new place she added ended up being just about Sarah’s favorite of the trip. There, she and Mayumi dressed up and we took pictures. We also got to go to numerous stores with all the merchandise related to anime, etc. Mayumi knew where the best places were, to get what Sarah wanted…places we’d never find on our own. We have used private guides is many different places and never met any as accommodating and knowledgeable as she is. Our granddaughter’s wish list made this a very unique request, but Mayumi was willing and able to meet and execute the long list. I can’t say enough about how wonderful she is.
Hello Betty, Hope you are doing well. Thank you so much for the great review. Although we'd had rainy days during your stay in Tokyo, we saw lots of interesting things that foreign tourists don't usually visit. I think that's a great idea to trace the footprint of samurai warriors at the end of the Edo period like Shinsengumi. I rediscovered the deep world at that time from other perspectives thanks to Sarah. I'm really impressed by her knowledge on Shinsengumi. And it was also good to visit the old soy sauce brewery in Kawagoe instead of Hakone in the heavy rainy day. Please stay in shape and let's go to Hakone to see Mt Fuji next time. I'm really looking forward to the next chance to show you around. Please say hello to Sarah and your husband!
