We toured Tokyo for our first time with local expert, Akira. From the planning stages, he communicated thoroughly with our itinerary and answered any and all questions very promptly. We only had one day and wanted to see cultural sights of Tokyo. Unfortunately our only day to tour was on a Monday, which is the day of the week that many sights are closed. But Akira came up with a plan to thoroughly enjoy Tokyo. He arrived promptly to our hotel lobby and off we went. We navigated Tokyo by ways of the subways with Akira's help. We visited the grounds of the Imperial Palace, then toured the Tsukijii Outer Fish Market and had lunch. Knowing it was my first time to eat sushi, Akira was a true sushi navigator and we ate a delicious lunch with a large sampling of various sushi, even sea urchin which I really enjoyed. Then off we went to the Edo Fukagawa Museum (only one open on Mondays) to see a glimpse of life in Japan during the Edo period. From there, we visited the Senso-ji Temple. Akira was very thorough explaining Japanese customs and beliefs. His english is excellent and could answer any and all questions. Then through the kindness of his heart (and not part of our itinerary), he took us to a particular bookstore to locate and purchase a specific book in Japanese for our daughter. He found it. We couldn't have done this without his help. He escorted us back to our hotel. Besides being a true professional and understanding guide, he was very kind and sweet. There is no doubt if we should ever return to Tokyo, we would contact Akira again - even just to say hello to our dear friend.
Dear Jamie, Thank you vety much for the great review. I’m so happy that you enjoyed the day with me and so glad that your first sush experience was good one. Now you have experienced sushi, so next time you can try other Japanese food such as Ramen, Tonkatsu, Monjya-Yaki. Also, I am so happy that your daughter is a fan of the book. The author is a versatile writer and not only the genre that the book covers, but also she has written many other good novels of other genre such as history, and juvenile stories. It was only one day tour and you haven’t seen everything yet. If you have another chance to come back to my loving city, I’ll be happy to be your guide again. Sincerely, Akira
