This was our first trip to Japan and my wife and I arrived on October 6, 2018. We arrived at Yokohama by cruise ship on a 19 night transpacific cruise from Vancouver. As soon as we cleared customs, Makiko was there waiting for us. Because we spent many hours back and forth by email over the previous 6 or 7 months planning the itinerary with Makiko for this 5 day tour of Tokyo and the surrounding areas, it felt like we were meeting an old friend because of her warm and caring welcome. My wife and I have been on many cruises and land trips over the years and we have used private guides on most of our trips. I need to say, without exception and any reservation, that Makiko exceeded all the other tour guides we have ever had in the past with her friendliness, kindness, professionalism, knowledge and caring attitude. My wife has some mobility issues and she consistently went out of her way to make sure that all the areas we toured had necessary accommodations for her. Makiko did not rush ahead of us, like some previous guides we have had, but always made sure that the pace was appropriate for my wife. She constantly kept her attention on her to make sure she remained safe and could climb the steps, small hills, bridges and other uneven areas. The safety and comfort of my wife was a main concern for Makiko and words cannot express how much this meant to us. I will not go into detail about the places we visited but all were as agreed in advance. We would never have been able to do all that we did without the services of Makiko and were able to see and do much more than if we had tried to do daily self guided or bus and van tours on our own. Our daughter arrived in Japan about two days before we did and met up with us. She toured with us on 3 of the 5 days we were there. She has said to me and my wife, not only while we were in Japan, but on at least four occasions since we returned to California, that she loved touring with Makiko and she misses her greatly. Makiko and my wife, daughter and myself spent the days together seeing as much as we could but we had many laughs as well. My wife likes to shop and take many pictures. In fact, my wife took over 3000 pictures on this trip. We all were laughing as we watched her taking pictures of everything and everyone. And not once did Makiko rush us or hurry us along. In fact, she even showed my wife more places to take pictures and shop. Thank you Makiko!!! All kidding aside, Makiko made this the most wonderful travel experience for us and I would never consider any other guide but her when we return to Japan in the future.
