This tour of Takayama with Takahiro is a highlight reel. You do get to see the top sights of the city, but if you want something in depth, book a full day tour! We chose not to due to limited time and wanting to visit Shirakawago that afternoon. That being said, we do feel like we still got to see the real Takayama. Takahiro took us to his favorite place for gohei-mochi, a local specialty, and made us feel very welcome and not rushed. Thank you so much for a lovely tour! view more
Hiro was a perfect guide for us. He explained in very good english what we needed to know, and what we wanted to know. He kept a good pace, and was patient when we took pictures. Hiro has a very good sense of humor, and is very knowledgable. He proved to be of great added value in finding our way quickly in beautiful Takayama. After the tour we took a bus to another site for visiting, and he stayed with us to make sure we got on the right bus. We highly recommend the services of Hiroyuki... view more
Mika met me in the lobby of my ryokan and I was immediately taken by her cheerful disposition and great command of English. She took me on a stroll around Takayama and showed me all the local spots and introduced me to her friends we met along the way. Mika is very knowledgeable about the area and brought me to Sanmachi where I managed to get amazing shots of the area without anyone else in it due to our early start. (the best ever!) Mika also obliged my selfish request of taking me to temples a... view more
We spend one day with Mika, in and around Takayama. She picked us up at our Ryokan and then we went to the morning market in Takayama, where local farmers and producers told us about their products. We loved it. Later went for a stroll through the village and had a wonderful lunch with local food at a traditional restaurant, before spending the afternoon in nearby Shirakawa-go. Mika is a very knowledgable guide who speaks excellent English. The day was a lot of fun, and we learned a lot about li... view more
My husband and I scheduled two private tours with Mika in Hida-Takayama: a night at a local izakaya to learn about the town’s food culture and a morning tour of two local sake breweries. Mika was super friendly and knowledgeable! Even though we came into town on the last day of the Spring festival, she was able to find a great izakaya for us to visit and introduced us to some local food and drink we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to try. The next morning, she took us to two local sake breweri... view more
