My mother and I were fortunate enough to be able to book 2 days of touring with Michiko during our visit to Japan this month. We spent 1 day touring Kyoto and a second day touring Nara and walked away with incredible photos and memories not soon forgotten. Michiko was a wonderful tour guide who was not only well organized and detail oriented, but she was also very personable and went out of her way to get to know us and tailor our experiences to our interests. She was very attentive and made sure that her pace and modes of transportation were comfortable for my mother which I really appreciated. She was also flexible with the schedule given the rainy weather which was also very helpful and provided suggestions for additional gardens to visit when we had a free day. Michiko's tour of Nara was exceptional and we were able to visit several world heritage sites including Kofukuji Temple and Kasuga Taisha (highly recommend seeing the lanterns which was one of my mom's favorites) and Todaiji and her explanations about the symbolism in each location were fantastic. We also really enjoyed other stops throughout our day including touring a traditional Japanese house and learning about traditional tea ceremonies, trying out calligraphy and seeing bonseki demonstrations. Our tour of Kyoto was just as memorable as Nara, as we were able to see much of the western part of the city despite the incredibly rainy weather. The rain didn't slow Michiko down at all and she made sure that my mother and I were able to see everything that we wanted to see, even though it meant having to tour us through a sea of umbrellas at amazing sites including Kinkajui (Golden Pavilion and one of our favorites both for the views and the gardens) and the bamboo forest. We also enjoyed the garden at the Imperial Palace and a delicious lunch in Ukyo- Ku. My mother and I highly recommend taking a tour with Michiko because there was never a dull moment in our day and she really went out of her way to make our mother/daughter tour not only fun, but unforgettable. We will definitely reach out to Michiko should we make it back to Kyoto! Thank you for a great trip!
Thank you for your wonderful review. As a resident in Nara, I was so delighted your mother came back to Nara for the first time in almost 40 years with such a brilliant daughter! I was also happy to see both of you enjoying every moment of the tour with great sense of wonder. I hope you will come back again to see Lantern festival in Kasuga grand shrine, or beautiful gardens in Kyoto, which will show you different phases and attractions. See you again!
