What to Expect

This tour covers Arashiyama area, the west side of Kyoto. Enjoying the natural beauty is the main attraction here. Stroll along the calm and mysterious bamboo grove, try the delicious specialities like tofu and soba noodles, and enjoy the fascinating view from the Togetsu-kyo bridge.

Tenryu-ji Temple once contained all of the Arashiyama area. It has a garden whose view hasn’t changed in 700 years and an ink painting 9 meters in diameter titled “Unryu-zu” that is a splendid World Heritage asset.

Tougetsukyo Bridge which evokes Arashiyama’s elegance. The trolley trains and the cruise down Hozu River where you can physically sense nature throughout the 4 seasons. This is the place where you can feel Kyoto’s grace unified with nature

Denjiro Okochi, famed for his roles in period dramas, created the garden and villa for Okochi Sanso. You can fully enjoy the beautiful Japanese garden boasting an area of about 6000 tsubo (19835 sq. m.) and a view of Arashiyama that cannot be seen elsewhere

Jojakko-ji Temple was built on Mt. Ogura between 1596 and 1614. Without any walls for the temple, it has been constructed so that it seems to melt into the mountain environment. The pagoda rises to a height of 12m so that visitors can get a panoramic view of the Sagano area.

A north-south bridge spanning the Katsura River with the lush greenery of Arashiyama in the background, changing throughout the seasons. Extending 155m, it has a wooden handrail. Togetsu-kyo Bridge, along with the sandbar in the river, Nakanoshima, provides a place of rest.

A monkey park in the popular Kyoto tourist area?! Let’s introduce a hidden place where you won’t just be charmed by wild monkeys but will also enjoy hiking.

“ Lovely ride in Western Kyoto ”

Keiko was a terrific guide. We explored Western Kyoto shrines and the bamboo forest by bicycle. She shared her knowledge of the history of the area. She was very flexible about adjusting the timing to suit our needs and adding another person on short notice. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience with her as our guide.

“ Very knowledgeable and personable! ”

Seiko helped plan a comprehensive Kyoto itinerary for us, helping us cover most of what we wanted to see in Kyoto. We had no problem communicating with her at all, with her excellent English skills, and she was very personable and knowledgeable about all the sites we visited, taking the time to explain to us the culture and history behind them. Thank you very much for making our Kyoto tour a very informative and smooth one!

“ The Key to Kyoto ”

Makoon opened our eyes, ears, hearts and souls to the beauty of Kyoto. While our visit was short, our experience was infinite as we will carry these memories for the rest of our lives. Makoon is a teacher more than a guide and we highly recommend him to future Kyoto visitors. It will take too long to describe all that we did and learned, so I will say that this visit gave us a thirst to return one day and to tell our friends and family to visit this beautiful city. Thank you again Makoon for all your services!

“ Great Day! ”

Masaki or Makoon (as he likes to be known) was the perfect guide for our family of first timers to Kyoto. His knowledge and passion for his town are infectious and we learnt so much. We contacted Makoon with how we wanted our day to look and he catered perfectly! We wanted a bit of the old and the new and to also see things from a locals point of view - all perfect! Not only is Makoon a great guide, he's a great guy too! We thoroughly recommend him for Kyoto visits! Thanks
