We had an absolutely fantastic day in Nara with Hiroko. Our children (ages 10, 8 and 6) loved her and she went out of her way to make the day enjoyable for both them and us. We started by seeing the fawn enclosure at Nara Park, a special event during the time of our visit, and Hiroko guided us on the etiquette of both feeding and managing peacefully with the deer. Another fortunate surprise was that we were able to see a wedding in progress at Kashuga Taisha Shrine and Hiroko explained the traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. She also took us to see parts of the shrine that we would not have discovered on our own - we especially loved the seeing the hidden lantern room! Todaji Temple was an amazing sight with the huge Buddha statue and Hiroko helped us to understand the cultural significance of all the statues and the role of Buddhism in Japanese culture today. Hiroko was very flexible in meeting the needs of our children throughout the day by fitting in a lovely lunch, a quick ice cream and pointing us in the right direction for dinner. It was also a huge help to have an expert manage the many transit options to and within Nara. The train ride back to Kyoto was a pleasure as our children impressed Hiroko with their origami skills and she made some special things for them. Thank you, Hiroko!
Thank you very much for your kind and generous review, Cynthia. I am so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed the historic sites and a lot of deer in Nara. It was a great pleasure to be your guide there. Your children were beautiful, well-mannered and full of energy, and I really enjoyed their company. Their origami skills impressed me for sure, and I will not forget counting the number of the origami dogs Stuart made on the train. Please kindly give my warm regards to Andrew, Beatrix, Cordelia and Stuart. All the best, Hiroko
