Yumiko guided me on an enjoyable first day in Kyoto, helping me to get accustomed to using the buses around the city. We first travelled to Kiyomizudera temple, then walked back through Higashiyama to Kodaji temple and Yasaka shrine. The time was spent at my own pace and there were many fascinating shops along the way, with ceramics and wood cut prints, which slowed our pace. Yumiko was very flexible. After a short wander through Gion, we ate noodles at a restaurant near Nishiki followed by a walk through the market where Yumiko explained the many Japanese foods, there was an amazing array! We finished at Nazenji, a little too late, but not unexpectedly as I preferred to go slowly rather than rush around. Yumiko ably described the historical background to the sites and acted as both guide and friend throughout the day. Overall I thought Yumiko's only fault was that she too generous with her time.
Hi Andrew, I'm happy that you had a good time. There are more places to visit and things to see in Japan. Please come again! Yumiko
