Our day in Kyoto with Richard Hawkins was the absolute highlight of our whole trip. On our own we started our Japanese adventure with three days in Tokyo followed by a 16 day cruise around the three large islands. We caught the bullet train to Hiroshima for two days. We returned to Kyoto to meet up with Richard Hawkins as our guide around the Kyoto area. We had Richard hire a car to take us to more attractions in our limited time. He hit all the highlights we wanted to see in the morning and Richard arranged a lunch in a private home of a samurai ancestor. It was a four course meal of Japanese dishes with barley tea and home made plum sake. We visited Nijojo Castle and Fushimi Inari Shrine in the afternoon. Later he arranged a private Japanese tea ceremony in a 350 year old samurai home. We were able to rent kimonos for the ceremony. To finish the day he provided a Japanese meal and sake tasting. Richard is very knowledgeable about the Japanese history of everywhere we went. He has a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. We would very highly recommend Richard Hawkins as a tour guide for an unforgettable day in Kyoto. Jon and Sue S
I deeply appreciate your review and you entrusting me to take care of you on your trip to Kyoto. I am so happy you got to have a more 'local' experience and that your appreciation of it is high. Anything that I can ever do for you in the future, please do not hesitate to let me know and we can go more extreme local style next time you come. You said I was fun to be around but you guys were the jokesters! Loved every minute of it!!!
