If I could give Koichi 10 stars, I would! Out of our 14 day cruise this was the port we most looked forward to and Koichi did not disappoint. I had arranged an 8 hour tour for 6 of us. He met us at the port in a minivan he had rented for the day. He suggested flipping the schedule from what we had arranged, to better manage our time. We trusted him to know what was best and as I said he didn't disappoint. We arrived at Mt. Sakurajima, the active volcano before the crowds. We saw only 2 other pe... view more
Miki is local to Kagoshima and knows the history of the area very very well. She also serves as a English speaking guide at the Sengan-en Garden (which also houses a museum of Kagoshima). Her communication before the day was excellent and very timely. Her clarity during the day was perfect. If you are looking for a personable, well informed, very competent guide who speaks impeccable English, then Mikiko is your person. view more
Our cruise ship arrived Kagoshima port 21 Oct, 2018 at 1000, one hour late. Hashiguchi san, our driver of TR Taxi, waited patiently, picked us up and started our tour according to an itinerary pre-arranged via smooth discussion online between English-speaking coordinators of TR Taxi and me. We had a wonderful tour – the live volcano Mt. Ontake on Sakurajima, Kirishima Shrine, Shiroyama Park on the hill where we could see the entire Kagoshima city, and the historical Senganen Garden. Yoshiko is an excellent guide whom I recommend to anyone visiting Kagoshima. She stayed with stayed with us at each stop & was very pleasant, engaging, informative, and patient (I hurt my knee on my first day in Japan). She provided an excellent overview of Kagoshim and provided interesting information on Mt Sakurajima (active volcano) and was able to reference it to the our own Kilauea volcano (Hawaii). She also took us to the beautiful Senganen Garden & she told us interesting informa... view more

In a word, Chie was outstanding! Before our arrival she was very responsive to all my inquiries and offered many thoughtful suggestions to squeeze in as much as possible into our short visit. She accommodated our needs and arranged for a wonderful traditional Japanese lunch for us. Her English was fine and she had prepared illustrations to help us understand what we were going to see. All 7 of us were very pleased and we thank you Chie for making our visit so memorable. view more

Ikue was excellent. She was excellent in preparing our itinerary from the time we contacted her several months before our tour dates. She was on time and flexible in making changes to meet our interest and schedule. She also was excellent in contacting the taxi to help one of our friends that was on wheelchair for the entire tour. She was definitely helpful in providing assistance to our friend on wheelchair. One suggestion. A portable microphone would have been nice for passengers in the bac... view more
NOTE: We combined two tours with Eiji and this review will cover both of them! SUMMARY: Eiji is a perfect guide who speaks English extremly well, and, at the same time, just a very nice and funny guide – If you get the chance to get to Amami Oshima, try to book a tour with him. It’s worth every cent. Now let me go into some more detail: We (couple 32 and 34) just (yesterday) did a half day tour to Kinsakubaru and then, after dinner (Keihan, local dish you should try), which we had together... view more
