Most famous pond in Juniko Lakes called “Aoike” is highly recommended as worth seeing. There’s no steep slopes in the lake area. You enjoy walking in beech forest.
Tsuru-no--maihasi bridge is located between Hirosaki ciy and Juniko. The bridge is Japan's longest wooden triple arched bridge. If it's fine, you can see superb view with the bridge and Mt.Iwaki.
Juniko Lakes are located in Fukaura town along the Japan Sea, it takes about two and a half hours by car from Hirosaki to here.
Area of Juniko lakes are also designated as Tsugaru Quasi-national park next to zone of Shirakami-Sanchi, world heritage site.
Juniko means “twelve lakes” in Japanese, but actually there are 33 lakes in this area.
Aoike is especially famous for its deep blue of the water in Juniko lakes, most of visitors come to see this pond.
There are trails that go around the lakes and Japanese beech forest.
Best time to see autumn foliage of this area is late October, but it is not the best season to see the Aoike.
Because light of the sun does not fall on the surface of the pond, it’s hard to see deep blue of the water.
Best time to see Aoike is around noon from May to September.
The free time on the site is about 60-80 minutes.
Tsuru-no-maihashi was built on Tsugaru-Fujimi lake in 1994.
This wooden bridge was also built by white cedar of Aomori.
The bridge is the longest triple arched bridge in Japan and approximately 300m in total length.
There are also many cherry trees on the site and the trees are in full bloom in late April every year.
In late April, you can see both cherry blossoms in Hirosaki castle park and here.
The free time on the site is about 60 minutes.

We booked the transfer by bus from Aomori cruise terminal to Hakkoda ropeway, Towada lake and Oirase stream for 26 people. Our ship arrived two hours later, but the driver waited for us. Unfortunately, due to the strong wind, the ropeway to the mountains was closed, and boats did not go around the lake, but we spent our time walking along the lake, visiting the old temple in the forest, walking along the Oirase River with picturesque waterfalls. Great driver! Thank you!
It was great! The Taxi was punctual, clean and the driver was friendly. He didn’t speak English but he did have a translating App on his phone and gave us a map of the Castle and surrounding grounds when we hopped on the Taxi.
Our driver Kutawa was excellent. The day was as wonderful as we could possibly hope. He is a very safe and efficient driver, charming and had helpful suggestions as to how to enjoy our visit. Thank you for your excellent service, it was a great day. Adrienne Florida, USA

My review - thanks! Many thanks to Hirokane-san and to our driver! This day was one of the best days of our cruise.
The trip was amazing! We were met by the driver at the airport. The driver didn't speak English, but we perfectly communicated via translator. He showed us all the places with blooming sakura and also brought us to an authentic Japanese restaurant. He was very polite and professional. We enjoyed our trip very much!
