Walked and ate in Chinatown

by Amethyst - TripleLights travel specialist

It's easy to access to Chinatown in Yokohama by train. You may ride the Toyoko train bound for “Motomachi Chukagai” and the final station is close to Chinatown.

Yokohama Chinatown is the biggest town in East Asia. There’re 500 stores and more than 6,000 people live in the town.

After 1923 Great Kantō earthquake, almost all of western people returned to their countries from there. However, many Chinese had been stayed and opened Chinese or Taiwanese restaurants and shops. Then the area became big Chinatown.

Anyway, we were very hungry when arrived at the town... At first, we visited Taiwanese restaurant (“Aoba”) for lunch. The restaurant has a good reputaiton in the town.

Walked and ate in ChinatownI orderd Tinanese ramen and Xiaolongbao (soup dumpling). It was sooooo delicious:) The skin of the dumpling was sticky and the pork soup was really soaked in!Walked and ate in Chinatown

There's always room for dessert. We went to my favorite crape cake shop. We're able to enjoy a variety of fruits made cakes and the dough contains so much almonds. The mouthfeel is very crispy. Please note that the store's frequently subject to being unsold because of lack of almonds.

So that we're full, walked through the main street. Market Street ("Shijo dori") is crossing the main street. There’re a lot of little known good restaurants. Please check Tabelog beforehand!

Sooooooo many pepple had been getting in line to buy baked Xiaolongbao (baked soup dumpling). It becomes very famous in the last few years.

My daughter wanted me to take to the “Fascinating aquarium" for children in Chinatown. There's a play room for children in the end. My daughter was really satisfied with the aquarium and play room.

My husband and I spent our first two days in Tokyo with Keiko, and we are so glad we did. Keiko is adorable and we had the best time. Her English was great too. Keiko showed us all over Tokyo and set up a traditional tea service for us as well. She helped customize our tour to fit in as much as possible in the 2 days we were together. Sachimi was an absolutely fantastic guide! She met us promptly at our hotel and took us through Ginza before starting the tour of Tsukiji. She explained everything about the market and each of the different things on sale we saw and also took us to the best spots for fish and other foods (instead of letting us buy them at the first stall we saw them). Having a Japanese speaking guide who was able ...
