Visit the beautiful Nijo Castle in Kyoto

by Mieke - TripleLights travel specialist

Nijo Castle is a nice example of ‘ringed’ building, where the
innermost ring held the main castle (called honmaru or ‘main ring’
or 'main citadel'), the second ring held warriors and storehouses
of weapons and other provision to defend the honmaru (called ninomaru
or ‘second ring’) and an outer, general defence circle (called sannomaru
or ‘third ring’) where vassals were stationed.

Yoshie was an excellent guide, and also an exceptionally kind and pleasant person to spend the day with. His Golden Route tour packed a lot of sightseeing into one day, but we still had time to enjoy it, to learn from his detailed knowledge of the sights we were seeing, and to soak in the amazing views and architecture. There was a distinct flow to the day, and to the historical stories that wen...
