Viewing Autumn Leaves Around Kansai

by Mieke

Ancient Capital Kyoto Autumn Leaves
Best viewing time: early November - early December

Kyoto gets massively crowded during the autumn leaves season. And for good reason: it becomes one of the most enchanting places in all of Japan. Packed with momiji trees (the ones that turn yellow and then red), backed with temple after temple, this town guarantees you loads of kodak-moments. If you get off the beaten track (just look into the Lonely Planet and then choose those temples not listed) there are lots of beautiful places without other tourists than yourself cluttering your photos.

Viewing Autumn Leaves Around Kansai

Mt Yoshino, Nara
Best viewing time: Mid November - End November
Fee: Free
On Mt. Yoshino, there are numerous walking trails for monks and other spiritual adherents. But it also makes for a beautiful walk for others, both in sakura season and in autumn season. You can take a break at one of the temples or shrines on the mountain: Yoshino Mikumari Shrine, Kinpu Shrine, Kinpusenji Temple and Yoshimizu Shrine
Address: T 639-3115, 2430 Yoshinoyama Yoshino-cho Yoshino-gun, Nara, Japan

We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto for a one day tour and Yoshi conveniently met us at the station to begin our tour. We had a group of 9 with ages ranging from 15-50+. Yoshi did an excellent job of keeping everyone interested and we moved at a great pace. Any questions we had, he answered with ease. He was very accommodating and warm. I wish we had more time in Japan, as we would def...

Makoon was a truly wonderful tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about everything we did and saw, and was flexible to include the sights we want to visit in Kyoto. He was engaging, friendly, very enthusiastic about our tour, and he spoke English very well. He was also very understanding and accommodating about our numerous dietary restrictions. His tour was one of the highlights of our trip to J...

“ Two amazing days in Kyoto ”

3 days ago Traveler: Brian -   Tour Guide: Masaki

Two outstanding days in Kyoto with Makoon (Masaki)! We were a family of 6 -- 2 adults, 3 teenagers, and one six-year-old. Makoon took some ideas we gave him in advance and created a customized 2-day itinerary to hit everything and more. He developed a little sticker game for the little one to play, and adjusted his speed and topics so that all the kids stayed interested. He was very patient at...

Thanks to Mitsuyuki for making our trip to Kyoto memorable and easy breezy! It was raining hard and I couldn’t imagine we had to ride the subway and walk to different tourist destinations if we didn’t book him. Thanks Mitsuyuki, we had a great time! We’ll be back for more soon! We’re sorry if we got tired at the end. 😁👍🏻 🇯🇵

“ Insight to Japan ”

4 days ago Traveler: Roxanne -   Tour Guide: Toshiyo

Toshiyo was an excellent guide who took us to Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari-taisha. She provided us with the history of the sites we visited and answered all types of questions that we (4 of us) had. Having Toshiyo gave us a better insight to the people of places of Japan. She was also very helpful in clearing a misunderstanding we had about our JR pass, and saved us money in buying unnecessary tic...

We took a half day tour with Hiroyuki and he was very patient with my two elderly parents and two young kids. He brought us around on a rainy day and ensured we saw the sights we set out in our itinerary. He came with a bag of goodies for the kids and introduced them to some Japanese snacks. He also helped my mother repair her shoe that had a problem with the sole due to the rain as he knew a type...

“ A good overview of Kyoto ”

6 days ago Traveler: Leanne -   Tour Guide: Kenji

Kenji was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and we enjoyed our day with him. We did have occasional challenges with his English unlike our other guides in Japan. But overall very pleased with the areas we visited. I would forewarn people who visit Kyoto with TripleLights to be aware of the additional costs involved for the tour. We spent between $90-$100USD for taxi fares, entrance fees and lunch f...
