Uji Byodoin, the World Heritage Site

Byodoin Temple was built by the Regent, Fujiwara no Yorimich, by rebuilding the villa of Michinaga, his father in 1052. In 1053, the following year, Amidado was built, where Amitabha Tathagara is enshrinted, and is now called Hoo-do (Phoenix Hall). It is an elegant and ornate structure, in the image of  Palace in Jodo, Happy Heaven. Hoo-do has been repainted beautifully.

52 bodies of Unchu Kuyo Bosatsu

are on the walls inside the Hoo-do.They are dancing and playing the variety of musical instruments in the clouds. It is pleasant to see them.

Despite the hot temperatures it was a lovely day seeing the sights with Toshiyo! She was prompt, funny, knowledgeable and sweet. Her English is excellent and she adapted the trip as we went along given our needs and desires. I would highly recommend her and look forward to using her again on a return trip to Kyoto.

“ Nara with Toshi..... This girl can walk! ”

Good

We booked four hours in Nara with Toshi. We missed our train so we were a little late getting to our agreed connection point at the train station but Toshi was there waiting for us. I think that Toshi wanted to make sure we got to all the previously identified locations, so off we went at a pretty quick pace which was right in step with my gate but a little too fast for my wife and daughters. Tosh...

Toshiyo was punctual. I decided to get a guide as I was travelling with 2 elderly people, one who requires a wheelchair. She was very patient. She bought tickets for places we wanted to visit and suggested lunch places. She works with you to plan the itinerary, Highly recommended.

“ Insight to Japan ”

Excellent
2 months ago Traveler: Roxanne -   Tour Guide: Toshiyo

Toshiyo was an excellent guide who took us to Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari-taisha. She provided us with the history of the sites we visited and answered all types of questions that we (4 of us) had. Having Toshiyo gave us a better insight to the people of places of Japan. She was also very helpful in clearing a misunderstanding we had about our JR pass, and saved us money in buying unnecessary tic...

“ Kyoto memories ”

Excellent

Our party of four (one who broke his foot 2 weeks prior to the trip) were so fortunate to have Toshiyo for 3 days in Kyoto. She is extremely professional, flexible, sensitive, and made outstanding suggestions. Considering there was one day of rain and challenges of a wheelchair/scooter, we were not able to see two areas of our pre-arranged itinerary. I consider that amazing! Her suggestion fo...

“ Not that great with old folks after all ”

Poor

Communication was haphazard prior to the trip and set off some red flags but I thought it could be due to the delayed messenger service by TripleLights but turned out that the guide did not pre-arrange the imperial palace visit application as requested. Despite exchanging phone numbers, she did not reply to my messages either. I also read one of the reviews that Toshiyo was supposedly good with ol...

We took a day tour of some highlights of Kyoto with Toshiyo. Toshiyo was very helpful and responsive to our email inquiries (on the TripleLights platform) regarding what to see and how to organize our limited time with her. She was also great at suggesting some kaiseki restaurants for us to consider well in advance of our visit. We sometimes had difficulty hearing her soft voice during the tour it...

Our best wishes for the great job Toshijo did in the six hours of our trip around the interesting places of Kyoto, always taking a view on the different speed-steps one of us could go caused by somme personal medical reasons by a neurological handicap. Explaining and talks were interesting and friendly. We would do the same again when coming another time to this place. All the best for Toshiyo...
