Tips for Japanese Culture (2) Mask

Tips for Japanese Culture (2) Mask Really a lot of my guests from abroad asked me "Why so many young women wear mask?" Actually, really a lot of people in towns and trains wear mask in Japan. It might look a little bit of strange from travellers. Some of them was even afraid of epidemic of flu. However, as a matter of fact, most of women (who wear mask) don't suffer any kind of sickness.

I think it is a fashion of recent 10 years. There might be a couple of reasons. 1. a kind of clean-freak. 2.  spread of hay-fever.

Actually, air of cities in Japan is not so clean. In particular on the high-way or the city center, we feel air dust every time. If you stand in the town of Tokyo, your nostril might be blackened a little bit. I think women is kind of people always want to be clearn. That kind of desire makes them wear mask, I think.

Another reason, hay-fever (in Japan it is called 花粉症 or Kafun-sho), spread in this country year by year.  In particular in spring, pollen of cedar trees fly and almost cover this country. Really a lot of people have trouble of sneezes and nasal mucus.

Recently, not only medical mask but also fasionable colored mask appeared. We can say masks may become one of the beauty of Japan.

Tak was a very good guide. He took us on a a very varied tour of parts of Tokyo that we would not have sought since they are not typically the top things to see in Tokyo but were well worth it, especially with the explanations provided. He catered to a family with ages ranging from 13 to 79 and made it interesting for all. Thanks Tak!

Tak makes you feel like family right from the first meeting with his preparation of a traditional Japanese candy gift. He arrived an hour earlier than scheduled on Day 1 and did not mind giving us a head start. We booked him for 10 hours for Day 1 & 2 and a half day on Day 3. He never once counted the start or end time so we really appreciated his flexibility. He understood that our goal was to go...

We started our travels in Japan with Tak taking us around Tokyo. We accomplished so much and had such a good time on our first day that we decided to book Tak for a second day. Tak paid attention To what we wanted to do and who we were and he was a gentle supportive presence as we acclimated ourselves to Tokyo and Japan. His good humor and warm presence felt almost familial. My son and I felt supe...

Tak was fantastic. He worked with us before our trip to plan our day and offered great suggestions. Communication was throughout our planning and our day. For the day of the tour, he met us at our hotel and showed us how to use the subway system. He provided interesting facts, taught us easy ways to remember some key Japanese worlds and has a thorough knowledge of Tokyo and it’s history. He’s ...

It was nice meeting Tak, he’s very friendly and an easy going person. Our first meeting day was somewhat unplanned and a bit complicated, but on the second day, he was able to prepare my itinerary and made it convenient for us to move around to many places through subway. I wanted to book him again after our second meeting but It was unfortunate that he didn’t have enough time to join me on the th...
