Take a Hike on Mt Takao

by Mieke - TripleLights travel specialist

Mt Takao is perfect for beginners. It’s slope is not too steep, mostly well paved and equipped with signboards and picnic tables. Halfway up is a fabulous view of Tokyo and Kawasaki city, a view reserved for the climbers since you cannot get there with the lift. Flying squirrels inhabit the woods around Mt Takao, but apart from the bronze statue in front of the mountain, I have yet to see one. Have you spotted any?
Other animals one can spot at Takao are monkeys. But, these do not roam freely in the forest since they live in captivity in the Monkey Park on the mountain (accessible by lift as well). It is said that Japanese children who are naughty whilst climbing the mountain with their parents risk being left behind in the park, only to turn into monkeys. Maybe that’s why Japanese children are so exceptionally well-behaved…

Mt Takao cable car and lifts:
Price: 470 yen one way (children 230 yen, children under three years ride free)
Lifts start daily at 08:00, closing time depending on the season, but usually around 17:30-18:00.

She was very informative and patient. She helped us with many logistical details that would have been near impossible without a Japanese guide. Our kids really enjoyed interacting with her. She was always punctual and kept us on schedule. We would gladly use her services again.

The sumo practice & the Edo museum tour with Mari was well organized, communicated, and executed. Mari & I had a few exchanges, and as we did not want to follow the advertised plan of Sumo practice and the fish market - Mari was flexible and accepted our requests. She provided useful information on the way to the sumo practice and was very helpful at the Edo museum, where English signs were s...

From the moment we met Yumi for our Shinjuku tour, we liked her right away. We found her to be warm, friendly and genuine. She is very approachable and very helpful. You can feel that she likes what she's doing. Without her, we would have been lost in Shinjuku. She even went out of her way to find us a ramen place close to our hotel which turned out to be delicious! Without hesitation, I can reco...

“ The best way to experience Tokyo ”

Excellent
1 day ago Traveler: Joe -   Tour Guide: Maru

On previous visits to Tokyo, I found it very interesting to observe the culture, and watch the local people going about their business. But Japan is very unique, and it is difficult to understand all that’s going on. As a foreigner, you cant shake the distinct feeling of being an outsider watching things from a distance. Maru changed all that for me. Within a few minutes of meeting Maru, I felt...

We had a great 2 days with Keiko. She was punctual and flexible when we asked her to meet us at our hotel even though it was out of her way. We were able to adjust our itinerary each day based on what we wanted to do. She knew all the places to get free samples at the Tsukiji fish market. We wanted to sample Japanese food so she took us to several places. She pointed out the best places to take pi...

Toshihiro met us at our hotel and we were off for a wonderful 2 day visit through Tokyo. He worked within our requests for the different venues and sights we wanted to see.
