Slurping is good? Customs differ from country to country.

I like all kinds of noodles such as ramen, Soba or buckwheat noodles and pasta. I often examine any good noodle restaurants in advance wherever I go. Do you know how most Japanese eat noodles, especially Soba? The typical way they eat noodles is slurping. The sound is not annoying to me but natural. Furthermore, slurping sound represents appreciation for a cook and also shows a good appetite. I consider this custom to be preserved even if non-Japanese people tend to refrain from making sound when eating food. Slurping is not only custom but also tradition. In the temple town near Jindaiji in Chofu city in Tokyo, there are more than 20 saba noodle restaurants. I would like you to eat soba with slurping. If you like, I will teach you how to slurp. I highly recommend you join my tour.

“ Very nice man, but English not so good ”

Hiro is extremely nice but we are very sorry we used him for our first trip to Japan. It is not fair to have a guide that cannot tell you stories about the places or anything other than the paragraph you read on triplelights I about the sight you are visiting. Hiro really should not be an English tour guide, it was not fair to us, we spent 4 days just following him around from place to place in...

“ A half day around Nikko ”

Hiroyuki is a very knowledgeable man. Teaching me about the history of Japan and the Edo period. I learned a lot from him. It was during Golden Week in Nikko so it was very crowded so we had to change up the itinerary to a walking distance instead of taking a bus. So the tour was a little shorter and went to less places but what can you do? Still had fun and learned a lot. Thank you for the tour.

Hiroyuki was great! We booked him only a 1 day prior and it was a very easy process. He met us at the hotel and built a custom itinerary. When we wanted to do things of the itinerary it was not a problem. He would take pictures for us of us which is always nice. He had a lot of great knowledge that made the tour very insightful. At the end of the day we wanted to stay in Asakusa so he departed fro...

Hiroyuki is a very friendly and heartily guide. He knows his way around well and has led me to places that are not crowded with tourists. His English is okay, but he is working to improve it. All in all, I would book him again, because he knows very well about Tokyo and carries the heart in the right place.

We were very fortunate to have Hiroyuki Iwai as our Certified English Guide for our half day tour to the National Diet, Tsukiji's Inner and Outer Markets and his guidance to Ueno's National Tokyo Museum. Hiroyuki is very intelligent, patient, caring and flexible! He exhibited these qualities throughout our walking tour. He arrived early at our Hotel in Ueno to start our trek to Japan's Nationa...
