Shibuya Fashion Week

Under the wings of the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo, Shibuya hosts its very own fashion week from October 10th 2014 to October 19th. Famous for the fashionable youth hanging out in the Shibuya area, this special version of the Tokyo Fashion Week will be on edge! The theme of this year’s fall edition of Shibuya Fashion Week will be “A Shibuya Style, Just For Me”, inviting people to find themselves through fashion and promoting the real beauty of Shibuya (according to their website). What are some of the events during Shibuya Fashion Week?

What? Street Runway with music performed by BASSCAMP. Shibuya’s up-and-coming designers present their new styles for the season Spring 2015. This runway is open to the public, so if you’d like to know what the trends are next season, just drop by the runway in Bunkamura Street. Be sure to arrive early if you want to have a good spot.
When? Oct 19th from 13:00.
Where? Bunkamura Street

What? Creation of Somarta. This exhibition shows us the processes behind the screen of futuristic Japanese designer brand Somarta. How does Tamae Hirokawa (Somarta’s lead designer) create the styles and designs? Learn it all here, and see some of the new designs for Spring 2015.
When? Oct 7th-19th 2014
Where? Shibuya Seibu, A bldg., 7th floor.

What? 109 Halloween. THE temple of ‘gyaru’ (Japanese young girls with a very colourful and often gaudy style, find out more here), Shibuya’s 109, hosts a special Halloween Week from Oct 14th till 31st (so it’s actually two weeks!). Prepare yourself for a Disney-like experience, with spiders hanging from ceilings, pumpkins everywhere etc. etc., lots of Halloween goods and limited edition items. If you’re not Japanese sized (like myself..), buying clothes there will be difficult, but just walking around there people watching is already most of the fun!
When? Oct 14th-31st 2014 (according to 109’s opening times: 10:00-21:00)
Where? 109 Shibuya. If you get off at Shibuya station you can see the 109 building from the scramble crossing. Website: www.shibuya109.jp/en/

So glad we had Junko starting our first day in Tokyo! Despite reading so much about Tokyo and having google maps to help me, I know our family of four would have gotten lost now if we didn’t hire Junko. Junko helped us with subways, stopping over at a beautiful park going from first destination to the next and made our first day so much nicer. She also helped me plan out which places to visit tha...

We had a fantastic and fun day with Yuki! He kindly picked us up at the hotel and customized the tour to fit our interests and requests. We really enjoyed the hanami mixed with Japanese history and modern pop culture, topping it of with souvenir shopping - Yuki made every effort to pick the right place to find what we we’re looking for. It felt really sad when we had to part ways, since meeting Yu...

We had a great introduction to Tokyo with Makiko! She recommended us to visit the following must see sights in Tokyo for our first day in the city including Tsukijii Market, Asakusa, Meiji jingu shrine and Harajuku. Tsukijii market was great and she made recommendations on which shops had good prices on Toro sushi and where to buy the best green tea. Our trip was mid March and we were hoping to...

We are very glad we booked our tour with Junko, she was an excellent guide on our first day in Tokyo. She created a customized itinerary based on our interests, and her recommendations turned out to be great. She helped us pack a lot into our day, but not “too much” – really the perfect pace for us.
