Run Around the Imperial Palace

by Mieke - TripleLights travel specialist

The grounds of the Imperial Palace used to be swarming with samurai in shining armour, ready to fend off an attack to the Shogun, who resided in the castle. Nowadays, some 140 years later, the swift samurai have been replaced with swift Tokyoites in flashy running shoes (mind you, running around Tokyo requires the hippest of running wear). The 5km course has been equipped with lockers , showers, toilets and fresh water fountains. Furthermore, there are many palace guards lining the course, so running at night is perfectly safe even if you are by yourself, although the course is so popular that you will probably never really be by yourself.

They provide the usual soap, shampoo and conditioner so you don’t have to bring it. A bicycle rack is available, so this station is used by many ‘imperial’ cyclists too.

Yuko gave us a private tour at Akihabara. She showed up early and was very prepared. She had a print out schedule she showed us in the beginning of the tour. First we went to a figurin store called Radio Kaikan. For lunch, she gave us a choice of maiden cafe/gundam cafe and we went to with the maiden cafe, and it was a quite a experience and we were glad we had a good translator with us. She also...

Yoko graciously stepped in at the last minute when our original guide fell ill - and we were very fortunate. She took us on an amazing whirlwind day to see all of the major locations and neighborhoods in Tokyo. From hitting the changing of the guard at the Imperial Palace, to an amazing Sanja festival at Asakusa Temple. We had an incredible sushi lunch at the Tsukiji Fish Market, and along the ent...

1 day ago Traveler: Mandy -   Tour Guide: Eiko

Eiko was organised, extremely amicable and flexible in our itinerary. We probably took on too much being our first day after long flight with a 12 year old but she was very understanding. Discovered places we would never see & moved swiftly around towns. Eiko was full of information & would be great to have for multiple days around Tokyo. We did take her away from her family on Mother’s Day, s...

I so appreciated her always responding promptly to all my emails finalizing our itinerary. It was wonderful being able to choose what sites we wanted to see on our free day. Having Yumi expertly maneuvering all the trains was so amazing. We would have never been able to accomplish what we did without her help. She was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. She was always concerned about o...

2 days ago Traveler: Ingrid -   Tour Guide: Junko

Our family of 4 met Junko to guide us on a one day tour of Tokyo. She arrived on time and was prepared with handouts, maps etc. we had emailed back and forth before our trip discussing the itinerary. Junko replied promptly and happily revised as needed. We would not have been able to see as many sites on our own, she also taught us how to navigate the subway system which can be intimidating for a ...
