Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido Prefecture with a population of approximately 2 million. In 1972 when I was 15, the Winter Olympics was held in Sapporo. Then, at the event of ski jumping normal hill, Japanese athletes won all three medals, gold, silver and bronze, when I was very excited to watch the competition on TV. I have ever climbed to the top of Okurayama, large hill schanze in Sapporo. Looking down from there, I remember that I, as if a jumper, felt myself plunge into the center of the city. This panoramic view of Sapporo is not from Okurayama but from Moiwayama. Moiwayama is 531 meters high and covered with pristine forest. I recommend you ride streetcar from Susukino to ropeway station. I love Hokkaido. Enjoy your trip in Japan!
