Not Too Hot, Not Too Cold

by Mieke - TripleLights travel specialist

The temperature in autumn in Japan is just right: not too hot, not too cold, but complimented by a fair amount of sunshine. You miss the humid, hot summer. This season can be survived only with the help of ‘cooling gel’ and the occasional flight into a convenience store with maximum force airco. Also, you can evade winter, which is also not too bad, but it can get cold, and you run the risk of getting stuck in your hotel because public traffic stops running when snow falls (which is something my friend experienced for some 3 days in winter 2013). Spring is another popular season to visit the country because of the sakura blooming. But the colourful sights of autumn can definitely compete with that if you ask me. In autumn, you can enjoy the lingering summer heat and still walk outside at night with only a t-shirt on (and maybe a pair of pants if you want to avoid getting arrested).

Chisato-san was very flexible with how we use the day. She met us at Kyoto in order to drive our rented car (where she also need to be registered with the car rental company for insurance coverage). We visited some beautiful tea plantations, incl the famous Hariyama plantation. We had lunch at a tea farmer's house... it's good food and nice presentation, we were fortunate to have a chance to pick ...

We had a perfect introduction to Kyoto with Masaki (Makoon) Mori as our guide. He was friendly, enthusiastic, and very considerate of us and others. His extensive knowledge of Japanese history and culture helped us get a lot more out of our visits to the various sites than we would have if we had been on our own. Makoon helped us with much more than just the tour itself. He recommended restaurants...

Koichi was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the local areas we visited. The tour was faultless throughout and was the realisation of a dream come true for me. During our tour we had a brilliant lunch suggested to us by Koichi and we visited several places which were not on our original plan, but made the day even more enjoyable. A super highlight was when Koichi suggested we stop at...

My wife and I spent an enjoyable day on Sado Island with Kei. The weather was great and the Cherry trees were in full bloom. The island was beautiful. The tour was not limited to facts, figures and dates. Being from the island, Kei’s familiarity with the plants, animals and historical sites gave us an insider’s perspective. We took the Jet Foil from Niigata to Ryotsu. Stayed overnight on...
