10 mins Calligraphy in Narita

Shodo is one of the traditional Japanese cultures which is the way of writing Chinese and Kana characters with a brush in India ink. Good Japanese calligraphy possesses not only beauty, but also rhythm, as well as the character of the calligrapher and their emotional state. To write a beautiful calligraphy, you have to keep your posture straight and concentrate your mind.

10 mins Calligraphy in Narita

You can take a 10 min Shodo class in Naritasan-Shinshoji Calligraphy Museum. Don’t you think it’s fantastic that you can experience one of the authentic Japanese cultures instead of hanging around at Narita Airport.

During the class, you can learn about basic Shodo, and practice favorite letters. Then you complete to write the letters on a Uchiwa (paper fan) or a postcard or a small hanging scroll. You can choose one of the following three choices. If you take more than 10 min, there is no extra charge until you complete.

  1. 500JPY for writing your favorite character on Uchiwa
  2. 700JPY for writing your favorite character on a postcard size with a picture frame
  3. 1,300JPY for writing on a Japanese Calligraphy paper with a small hanging scroll

Through this experience, I hope you can feel some of Japanese culture.

If you plan to stop over Narita, it would be a great pleasure to guide you. I will explain about the historical background of Narita-san Shinshoji temple and take you to 10 min Calligraphy lesson. My tour website is:

Mari was a lovely lady who had a personalised note waiting for us at our hotel. She met us there and was adaptable for our first day to organise our rail and metro passes as well. She took us to an amazing lunch spot and was very patient with my tired boys. Mari would probably be better suited to a couple, as my boys were a challenge, though she was very kind and did her best. Thank you Mari for a...

Due to our limited time and in the evening, hiring a tour guide (Mari) was our best choice to get the most out of our short stay. Mari helped me make the most of my layover, very efficiently introducing me to Japanese culture. In just four hours, she introduced me to Japanese pastries, we toured a gorgeous temple and grounds, attended a tea ceremony, visited a shrine, strolled the very quaint and historic town of Narita, shopped for personalized chopsticks and other crafts, and ate delicious ramen. Throughout, Mari provid...

Mari is a very cheerful and experienced tour guide. She brought us to Tsukiji and showed us all the interesting stores and places at the market. She narrated the interesting stories and events that happened at Tsukiji. Instead of queuing for hours to try quality sushi at the market, Mari steered us to a little sushi shop, Sushi Cho, a few blocks from Tsukiji which sells excellent quality sushi wit...

We could not have asked for a better guide. Via emails, Mari determined our interests well ahead of time, and prepared an itinerary that not only included sights we requested but also introduced us to some "hidden secrets" that made the tour very special. She is very knowledgeable on all matters of Japan (even though our focus was on historical art and architecture) and enlightened us greatly on ...
