Senami Onsen in Murakami-city is famous for hot spring and "Lover's Sanctuary" on the beach.

There are more than 100 Lover's Sanctuary in Japan, approved by an NGO to revitalize local ecomony and raise birth rate in Japan.

Among them, Lover's Sanctuary in Senami Onsen is perfectly located to propose to your destined partner in this beautiful scene!

Ring the bell together and you'll be happy ever after!

Now, let's enjoy foot bath nearby.  Cute foxes( or dragons?) are welcoming you.

Please listen to the gushing sound of hot  water.

About 10 minutes walk from the beach is the Funto Park, where the hot water gushes out from the ground.

Boiled eggs!!  We Japanese love "温泉卵”, because they are boiled in mineral-rich onsen water and eating them is good for our health. It took about 15 minutes to boil eggs and I visited a small shrine nearby... See you later, my eggs!

Wonderful view from the Iyahiko Shrine on top of a hill, overlooking Senami Onsen area.

It was a bit scarely to go up this steep steps to reach the shrine but seeing this beautiful panoramic view made me feel happy!

A dragon is enshrined in this shrine. Legend has it that long long ago, there was a snake protecting this area.

One day it decided to be a dragon to potect here as  a god.  So it had to go through rigorous trainging without being seen by people.

Finally, the snake became a dragon god. Then after the lonely training, it wanted to interact with the locals.

So, it disguised as a fox to do so and has been protecting this area ever since.  The ringing sound of the bells resembles fox's bark.

It is said that you come here and ring these bells bring you happiness!

This time, I rang these bells for you!  Please listen to the different sounds.

I hope these sounds usher you to Senami Onsen in  the near future.

Almost always you can find shops selling "温泉饅頭”(sweet steamed cake) in any onsen towns.

Senami Onsen Tourist Information Office is located next to this  shop.

Senami Onsen is easily accessible from Murakami station either by bus or taxi, about 10 minutes ride.

My husband and I are from Hawaii and we hired Fujiko as our guide to visit the ancestral home of our family from Niigata. She far exceeded our expectations and due to her efforts, we actually met a direct relative. Fujiko has a fun and friendly personality and we were immediately impressed by her expertise as a guide. She is very proficient in English and is knowledgeable about Sado Island, ...

Fujiko made our Niigata tour, though only for a day, very memorable. She took the extra mile to grant our request to visit a nearby place which was not included in the itinerary. She has good command of the English language and communicating was a breeze. I highly recommend her if you need a guide in Niigata.

A typhoon was approaching Niigata the day before we were meant to leave on the hydrofoil to Sado. Fujiko-san happened to be in Niigata and we meet and were comforted by her assessment. Took the ferry the next morning under calm conditions and spent a really nice day with Fujiko. Saw the Toki’s, ate great Soba and apples, picked persimmons and figs off a tree. Visited a famous sale brewery that mak...

We were so happy and fortunate to have had Fujiko-san as our guide and Kei-san as our driver in Sado - they truly made our trip special and memorable for our whole family. Typically we don't like guided tours because they are often canned and sterile, but the tour with Fujiko san was the complete opposite--very personalized, unique, and special throughout. Highlights are too numerous to list bu...

We spend amazing four weeks in Japan, but the two trips on Sado Island we did with Fujiko were definitely our highlight. Fujiko did a great job guiding us and spoke excellent English. Apart from being a caring and humorous person one could tell that she really likes being a guide.

“ Tour of Murakami city (near Niigata) ”

Our visit to Murakami city would not have been as enjoyable or efficient without Fujiko's help. When I planned a day trip to Murakami city I knew having a language guide would be helpful, but I thought I could navigate through the small city by myself. After spending the day with Fujiko I learned that I would not have been able to do and see as much had I decided not to retain Fujiko's help. Es...

Fujiko is, quite simply, the best guide we have ever used -- anywhere. She grew up on the island -- and runs a small farm. She knows Sado Island like the back of her hand. She speaks very good English. But, the best part is that Fujiko avoided the tourist traps. She took us to unusual and interesting places - including an impromptu picnic high up in the mountains. That was the highlight of our ent...
