Looks much more delicious than real one!?

The exhibition of "shokuhin sanpuru" or replica food at restaurants in Enoshima Island

One of the joys of travels is to enjoy meals somewhere you visit. And like everywhere else, here in Enoshima Island there are many kinds of specialties at each restaurant located on both sides of the approach to Enosima Shrine. The strong tool to attract customers is dishes of replica food beautifully displayed in the windows. They are a great help especially to foreign people to decide what to eat without having to read a Japanese menu. Now let me show you some of the masterpieces among many of them.

Looks much more delicious than real one!?

Look so fresh, beautiful and appetizing, don't they?

The one below is sashimi boat. Several kinds of raw fish are artfully sliced and laid out in beautiful color combination on a small boat. They look fresh as if just caught from the sea in Sagami Bay.

Covered with plastic wrap, can you believe they are not edible?

An assortment of sliced white meat sashimi, fresh shirasu ( baby sardines, which are the most popular seafood around Enoshima Island area), and three kinds of colorful seaweed with wasabi horseradish and grated ginger as condiment. How can they be artificial!

Did the big eye of the fish scare you? The name of the dish is simmered alfonsino, or kinmedai no nitsuke. It is flavored with soy sauce, sake and sugar and the meat of the fish is very soft. This dish goes very well not only with rice but also with warmed sake. It may look scarely, but the taste of the "real" one is so good, for sure!

Looks much more delicious than real one!?

And, of course there are several kinds of ramen served at some other places for ramen lovers and for someone who'd prefer not to have sea food. The ramen looks like it's steaming, doesn't it?

Looks much more delicious than real one!?

So, how was the exhibition?

Did they make you hungry? I hope they did, and also hope you will come visit Enoshima Island someday and try some of the "real" ones out of many specialties here!

Eri was easy to communicate with right from the start. Quick to respond to any queries I had too. She met us with a bright smile and was very patient with us. She regaled us with the many stories of Shoguns and battles and tragic love. It was a wonderful way to learn of the past and to marvel at the monuments attesting to those tales. Truly a delight to share it with Eri. Thank you

We are a family with two babies and Eri was very understanding and patient about their needs. Since we are Muslims, she arranged us a very nice lunch in a beautiful restaurant. We wish to see some more places soon with Eri, especially “Enoshima I...

Eri made our family’s day trip to sublime Kamakura most memorable. She is enthusiastic, charming, flexible, and has excellent English skills. Eri shared with us that she studied history at university, and her command of Japanese history was evident throughout the tour. She explained rituals, filled us in on legends, and pointed out iconic images and design features at the Zen temples and Shinto s...

My wife Sandra and I spent a great day in Kamakura with Eri. She knows Kamakura inside out and she clearly loves it, which was apparent from the way she showed many of its highlights to us. Eri met us at the station dressed in a beautiful kimono which was a delightful touch. “ A perfect day in Kamakura ”

My sons (aged 14 and 12) and I decided to visit Kamakura as a short-getaway from our Tokyo trip. As I was travelling with my teenagers, I was looking for someone who could show us around all the shrines and temples (which could otherwise have been boring without any guide). We're very happy to have found Eri. Eri is an excellent guide who knows Kamakura very well. Dressed in a kimono, she has a pl...

“ Comprehensive half day intro to Kamakura ”

Excellent
9 months ago Traveler: Minnie -   Tour Guide: Eri

We booked a half day tour with Eri because our flight arrived early in the morning and we could not check in to hotel until 3 pm. We took the wrong train and arrived 15 mins late into Kamakura but Eri was very patient and cheerful. She also helped us store our luggage at a "secret" local place near the station which was full. The tour was very informative and fun and was well worth the time spent....
