Lockers-for-Rent

Pay lockers, or "koin rokkaa" in Japanese. These might be one of the most convenient things you will find in Japan. You can see pay lockers almost everywhere especially in subways, airports, dormitories and inns, public bath houses and coin laundry stations, establishments, and more.

Now how do I use a pay locker?

Most lockers in Tokyo are available for rent wherein you insert ¥100 coins in the coin insertion slot, put your things in, close the locker, grab the key, and voila! You now have your instant short-term time capsule. Some lockers also have touch panels where you can input numerical passwords instead. The rental fee for these lockers usually range from about ¥200-¥700 per calendar day depending on the size of the locker, and have a maximum of 3-days storage period. Items left for more than 3 days inside these lockers are retrieved by some locker staff so make sure to get your stuff within the maximum storage period. Other lockers now also accept other modes of payment such as a Pasmo/Suica card, or other digital modes of money transfer through smart phones.

Other immediate rental services in Japan

  • Coin laundry and coin dryer - Since we already started talking about coin lockers, I am glad to inform you that Japan also has coin laundry and coin dryers. This is easy to explain. You insert your coin, put in your clothes, put in some detergent, close the machine door, and wait for your clothes to get cleaned.
  • Bicycle-for-Rent - Not only lockers are for rent in Japan. We also have bicycles for your travelling convenience, especially if you hate long walks.

We had an 8 hour layover in Tokyo. When initially contacting Kyoko to set up the trip, she always had prompt, professional responses and recommendations. Touring with Kyoko was an outstanding experience. She made us feel like we were spending time with a longtime friend. Kyoko met us at the airport. Our flight was delayed over an hour which shortened the time we had to see everything we plann...

My husband and I loved our tour with Akira. He was friendly, knowledgeable, had great English and made our first day in Tokyo truly wonderful. He met us at our hotel, showed us how to navigate the subways. Taught us shrine etiquette, Japanese history and cultural “norms”. He also took us to an amazing lunch we wouldn’t have found on our own and a coffee shop that inspired Blue Bottle in the US. Bo...

We new we had a short day and wanted to experience Tokyo from a cultural viewpoint. He was able to accomplish that by using the subway to get to all corners of Tokyo . We visited 5 or 6 sites, walked a lot and got the feeling of Tokyo that we wanted. His recommendation for a "Tokyo" lunch fit right in. Highly recommend him to others

My husband and I booked a four-hour tour with T-chan. She worked with me in advance of our arrival to determine what sights we wanted to see and was super easy to work with. Her English is excellent and there were no issues with communication. She met us at our hotel and we walked to the subway station. This was planned out and I believe she will accommodate to individual requests. She showed us h...

Our family had 2 days booked with Makiko. She was very attentive from the start - emailing ideas for the itinerary and being extremely responsive to our questions and ideas. It was clear that she was most interested in helping us enjoy the parts of Tokyo that best fit our interests. We arrived into Tokyo on a Friday evening, and were thrilled to meet her on Saturday morning. Thank goodness we ...
