Japanese Numbers You Can Use Every Day

by Mieke - TripleLights travel specialist

For those who would like to order Japanese numbers anyway
(for instance when you want to order more than just one beer),
here’s a list of so-called ‘counters’.
Depending on what you are counting, the number changes,
but the ones listed here are for ‘miscellaneous’ items.

1 hitotsu
2 futatsu
3 mittsu
4 yohttsu (be careful to pronounce the ‘o’ short, otherwise you’re saying ‘eight’)
5 itsutsu
6 muitsu
7 nanatsu
8 yoohtsu (be careful to pronounce the ‘o’ long, otherwise you’re saying ‘four’)
9 kokonotsu
10 tooh

Excellent day spent with Aiko. We did the Miyami Island Shrine, a fast ferry trip back to Hiroshima up a water way direct to peace park, a tour of the a-bomb area and a visit to the peace park museum. As well Aiko took us to a local restaurant to sample typical Hiroshima style food and them safely back to our cruise ship. Excellent day with great guide to see a beautiful spot in Japan.

Can’t give a high enough rating for Akira. His English is excellent and he made the day fun and stress free. He is super easy going and knows how to make the tour enjoyable, like you are taking a walk with a friend that just happens to know all of the great places in town. You can’t go wrong with Akira.
