Japanese Countryside at Matsue Castle

by Mieke

Matsue Castle in Shimane prefecture is one of the few original castles
still found in Japan. A visit to Matsue Castle alone is worth the trip, but you
might also consider visiting the old house of Lafcadio Hearn, and a samurai
residence closeby. Lafcadio Hearn, known in Japan under his Japanese
name Koizumi Yakumo, was an international writer of Greek origin, who
wrote many books about Japanese culture in from the 1890s.
