I visited Otaru and Yoichi. in late October.
Otaru is now famous and many tourists come throughout a year and Yoichi is gradually going to be famous all over the world for its techniques of whiskey distilling.
I visited Tengu-yama at first.
Tengu-yama is 532 meters high and you can see a nice view of Otaru city and Sea of Japan from abservetory deck.
At Mt.Tengu, you may have a chance to come across the legendary goblin, ”Tengu”.
Tengu is living deep in the mountains.
He has supernatural powers and is human in form. He has
a red face, a long nose and wings on his back, and flies as
he pleases with a feather fan in his hand.
Herring palace in Otaru.
This is the old style Japanese house built by rich fisher man.
Otaru was prospered by herring fishing.
Value of herring was equal to that of money at the late 19th century in Hokkaido.
Otaru, one of the most popular touristic distination in Hokkaido.
Today we had much snow around Sapporo.
Romantic snow season in Otaru began.
Otaru music box museum.
There are many varieties of design and music.
You can customize whatever you want.
My biggest surprising point today is that there were Sushi music boxes.
One of the most beautiful and artistic area of old Otaru.
There are many historical buildings remained.
I went to Yoichi and visited Nikka whiskey distillery.
Nikka is abbreviation of Nihon Kaju, literally Japan fruit juice.
I studied how to distill a nice Japanese whiskey.
At the whiskey distillery, I could enjoy free sample whiskey tasting.
I could try 3 kinds of whiskeys.
