by Luke - TripleLights travel specialist

We introduce the most popular itineraries amongst our customers who choose tours on Triplelights. We hope it helps you to plan your perfect itinerary during your trip to Japan. In our fifteenth post of the series, we focus on the best half day tour of the area of Dazaifu in Fukuoka.

In this five hour itinerary, we visit the secluded area of Dazaifu, known for its history, temples, shrines, and beautiful landscapes. At Kōmyōzen-ji Temple you can experience Zen in its purest form. At Dazaifu Tenman-gū you can cleanse your mind and body by crossing bridges over a pond said to represent the mind. And at Kyushu National Museum you can learn about the prehistory of the Meiji era.

With its unique Zen garden, Kōmyōzen-ji Temple is a place of tranquillity and beauty. Known for the only dry landscape garden in Kyushu, a mix of sand and stone surrounded by maple trees, this really is a place of relaxation. The autumn is the best time to visit, where a mix of changing leaves of various colours can be enjoyed around the garden and temple grounds.

2. Dazaifu Tenman-gū

Fukuoka Half Day Tour - 3 Major Spots of Historic Dazaifu

Visit this 1,100 year old head shrine and pray to the God of Learning. People visit from all over Kyushu each year to wish for academic achievements or fortune in passing examinations, but that isn't the only reason to visit. The shrine grounds feature numerous food stalls, Japan's largest example of a purification well made from a single piece of stone, as well as a bridge that is said to cleanse the body and mind.

3. Kyushu National Museum

Opened in 2005, it is the first new National Museum to open in Japan in over 108 years; and the first to elevate the focus on history over art. It even has an on site conservation centre, the biggest in Kyushu. The museum itself focuses on prehistory to the Meiji era, and the permanent exhibition features various collections of historic artwork or fossilised ruins.

Tomoko is super friendly and an amazing guide. Nothing was too much trouble or too rushed, and she was always thinking of interesting spots to see along the way. Travelling alone sometimes gets lonely, but meeting Tomoko was instantly like seeing an old friend. Could not have asked for a better guide or better company to spend my time in Fukuoka with. Super highly recommended. ありがとう。

The experience with Tomoko was great - prior to the trip she was very accommodating and she gave us a lot of options and research in order to make the best out of her trip. She will go the extra mile to help you, even if it isn't covered in the tour! She took our small group to the Yatai Food Stalls, and everything was great. Always a pleasure to have booked with her.

“ First day with Asako in Dazaifu ”

Excellent
1 month ago Traveler: Vivian -   Tour Guide: ASAKO

Asako was a bit early from our appointed time, but it was ok since we are ready anyway. It was overcast and drizzled the whole day. She is very knowledgeable and made Dazaifu interesting even if the weather was not cooperating. We bought some souvenir items with her help, and then treated us to tea and mochi. Well spent half day tour👍.

My daughter and I had a fantastic experience with Asako. She delivered a wonderful day touring the Temple, Canal City and even brought my daughter to the Anpaman Museum. She was absolutely wonderful with my daughter that she ended up calling Asako grandma. We were thrilled with her and wish we could have taken her with us for the rest of our stay in Fukuoka.
